Making Laptop USB Capable

CoolComputing Forum » Hardware Questions

Have you tried using another PCMCIA slot? You should have 2. Also go into the BIOS and see if you can find a value called PNP OS- toggle that between Yes and No and see if that helps. Also try loading Windows WITHOUT the card installed and then once Windows loads hot plug in the card and let me know if it detects it.

My laptop has NO USB Ports:

RE: Gateway Solo 2000

Model: SL23 SL Pent Deluxe

BIOS: Version 5.00

OS: Win 98 SP1

System: 32 bit

Card slots: 2 (1 = empty, 1 = modem)

At the suggestion of Gateway, I purchased a USB BusPort Mobile #F5U022 from Belkin. When I install the card, the computer does not see it. The Hardware Wizard does not see it when I run the wizard. I contacted Gateway, they told me to follow the instructions located at URL: http[://]www[.]usbman.com/Guides/irq%20steeriing.htm It did not work.

I need to enable my IRQ so an IRQ can be assigned to the BusCard controller thus causing the USB Card mobile to be recognized, but I cannot Sad because the IRQ Steering status says:

  1. IRQ disabled; 2. IRQ table has some errors

PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you in advance.
