Hi Ronald. Well I think the amount of RAM any recent sound card would use for MIDI is very small (512K to 2 Megs). And I don't think it's used until it's needed (the sound card loads the sound banks from the hard drive into memory). So this shouldn't be a concern at all I think.

Thanks, David. I did mean sound card. So if I don't have MIDI, I should go with non-shared memory one. Am I right?

Ooops- sorry Ronald didn't see your message until now. Hmmm do you mean video cards? If you are then the non-shared memory ones are better because they don't reduce your system RAM. If you're really talking about sound cards this memory is probably used for storing something like MIDI music instrument banks.
