You should apply the service pack immediately after you finish the Win2K installation regardless what you install aftwards. Then you should go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download the latest patches. As for Oracle for NT- you can install it on any version of NT (NT workstation/server, 2000 workstation/server) so those questions shouldn't affect Oracle at all. I mean you can have none of the server services like IIS, FTP, etc running and still install Oracle successfully. A hint on the configuration though- if the server is to serve a lot of users, then select the app/db or file server option. If you are just evaluating it you should select the option where the foreground applications have more priority than the background services.

I just installed a win 2k server. It seems that win2k has a lot more new stuff than NT and is quite different from Nt as well. After the server boots up, the first screen asks me to configure the server, such as to be an application/databse server, file server, or domain controller (with active directory service), etc. There are so many choices and I don't know which one to choose right now. I know I will have to read more docs, or get some training, but I am eager to try Oracle on this win2k server. Do you know if I can install Oracle without configuring the win2k server first? (I do plan to make this server as a domain controller later).

Also, when should I apply the win2k server service pack, befoere installing Oracle, or after?
