We just got back from a stay at Bahia Principe Sian Kaan. The promotional discounted rate was amazing for what they provided. We also had Bahia Principe do the transfer from the Cancun airport as well which was way cheaper than than the rates quoted online by these Cancun taxi/transportation sites.
I really don't get why Sian Kaan offer was better than that of Tulum and Akumal. I mean Sian Kaan even offered its own exclusive beach area, though it was kind of annoying to see people from Akumal over to use the beach chairs. The room was really modern and had cool huge windows. Same with all the restaurants here as well. Plus, you can eat at any other Bahia Principe Riviera restaurant but guests of Coba, Tulum and Akumal cannot dine at Sian Kaan without being privilege members.
The food at the Alux specialty restaurant was the BEST we've had in an all-inclusive. After reading online reviews, we tried Le Gourmet over at Coba, but man it sucked compared to Alux. The sea bass at Alux was the best we've ever had, even though the portion was small. The pheasant cannoli with lobster was so good. The lobster part was very small- just one bite, but very well cooked. The cold soup was the best I've had, period- very complex in favor. Service was way faster than Le Gourmet as well.
Our stay at Sian Ka'an did have a few hiccups, however. We had to ask for water the last two days- for some reason they didn't not automatically deliver to our room. They also added a 60 peso charge to our bill as a donation to their ecoBahia program. I didn't mind the charge, but I wish they had explained it to me and asked if I wanted to make the contribution instead of automatically billing me for it.
Also the shows were pretty sub-par. We had to take a tram actually to BP Akumal and Tulum for the 9 and 10PM shows, respectively as Sian Kaan didn't have their own theater/show. And don't be expecting Las Vegas or even cruise-quality shows. But that's been pretty much the case with just about all the shows we've seen in Mexico all-inclusive hotels.
I give Gran Bahia Sian Kaan a hearty 4 out of 5 stars. I would certainly recommend this resort to others if you are looking for a relaxing, more up-scale vacation.
Pros:

wonderful food at Alux
good buffet
