CPU Price Chart - June 10, 2001

Notes and Recommendations: New to this chart is the 1.4 GHz Athlon at a very attractive price point of $230. It is faster than the P4 1.7 GHz in many real-world tests, but yet is cheaper than even the P3 1 GHz.... As we head into summer there were quite a few new chip introductions. The long-awaited Itanium and the Athlon 4 (0.13 micron Athlon) are being manufactured, while Athlon MP and the Tualatin (0.13 micron PIII) are coming shortly. It will be interesting to see how the Itanium fairs when running IA-64 applications. It'd also be interesting to see how much faster the Athlon MP is compared to the dual PIII configurations since AMD has touted its performance advantage.
