Notes and Recommendations: The Athlon 1.3 GHZ is now available, further pressuring Intel on the high-end. And with DDR DRAM coming down in price and being more widely available, Intel better get its act together soon. The PIII 1 GHz has come down about 10% in price, but with the average-selling-price of the similarly-performing Athlon 1 GHz selling at $175, it's no contest.

Best high-end, best-bang-for-the-buck CPU for this time: AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz

Best value-based, best-bang-for-the-buck CPU for this time: AMD Duron  800 MHz
