How to Speed Up Windows Media Center Streaming to Xbox Extender?

0 votes
Hey I'm having problems trying to stream recorded TV shows from my office to my Xbox 360 in the living room.  I do not have ethernet between the two, but have tried both Netgear wireless N (300 MBps) and 200 Mbps Powerline.  The wireless is really awful- can't even get the Xbox to connect to my Media Center PC half the time.  With the powerline HomeAV adapter I can stream regular definition programs but that will only work like 1/3 of the time.  Often the connection will be lost ending in frustration.  How can I RELIABLY stream HD and regular shows to my Xbox without ethernet??!

You might want to look into MOCA adapters IF you have coax connections in your office and living room.  Quite a few homes have such a configuration, and MOCA adapters will enable you to reliably watch recorded HD shows via an extender of your Windows Media Center.  I know because I've tried it and it works great.  I actually bought Actiontec MI424WR Verizon FiOS routers as cheap alternatives to pure MOCA adapters which can cost upwards of $150 to $200 for a kit of 2.  You can find used MI424WR routers on eBay for between $25 to $35 shipped.  One word of advice if you go that route- be sure to go for REVISION C or later.  Revision A looks like a giant brick/shoe box and doesn't work well.  Revision C and later are more glossy black and have curved corners.  Good luck!
