 DFI has introduced a new fanless Micro COM Express module ML905 Series (ML905-B11C/-B16C). This module conforms to COM Express Type 2 Basic form factor standard, but with a smaller size of 3.74" x 3.74" (95 x 95 mm). The Micro COM Express form factor uses the same 220-pin high-speed SMT connectors and signaling of the COM Express Type 2 Basic module, making it a drop-in replacement. The DFI ML905 Series module is available with the Intel Atom processor Z530P 1.6GHz (-B16C) or Intel Atom processor Z510P 1.1GHz (-B11C) with both modules using the single-chip Intel System Controller Hub (SCH) US15WP. To increase performance and reduce power consumption, these processors feature 45nm High-k microarchitecture with Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, dynamic L2 cache sizing and Intel Hyper-Threading technology. The 1.6GHz processor model (-B16C) also incorporates Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) and a higher front side bus (FSB) speed of 533MHz, versus 400MHz on the 1.1GHz processor model (-B11C).
With Intel Hyper-Threading, Intel Virtualization and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technologies the ML905 Series is ideal for thermally-constrained fanless embedded applications requiring high-performance per Watt. Intel's 45nm Hi-k metal gate silicon technology used on this Intel Atom processor and chipset platform reduces power consumption to less-than five watts, while boosting switching speed and transistor density over previous 65nm technology platforms.
The new DFI ML905 Series Micro COM Express utilizes one 200-pin SODIMM socket supporting up to 2GB DDR2 400/533MHz system memory. The integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 500 on the Intel SCH US15WP supports 18/24 bit LVDS and SDVO display interfaces with up to a 160MHz pixel clock rate to the carrier board. In addition, this motherboard includes one Realtek RTL8111C PCI Express Gigabit LAN controller supporting 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps data transmission, two SATA ports (3Gb/s), eight USB 2.0/1.1 ports, and bus master IDE Ultra ATA 100/66/33 interface supporting two devices. This embedded Micro COM Express CPU module board also supports 4 PCI and 1 PCI Express x1 expansion slots on the carrier board.
This new DFI product is a low-power embedded solution for applications such as ATM/POS terminals, kiosks, industrial automation and control, and medical diagnostic & patient monitoring applications.

Onkyo's new TX-SR608 7.2-channel THX-Select2 Plus certified receiver has new power amplifier section that uses three-stage inverted Darlington output topology, and a power boost from 90 to 100 watts. Audyssey DSX dimensional sound processing has been added to its predecessor's Dolby PLIIz capabilities. Additionally, all video sources, including those using the new PC input, and regardless of source resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. The TX-SR608 will also include a front HDMI input, a feature first introduced by Onkyo in 2009. The TX-SR608 will be available in April at an MSRP of $599.
Onkyo home theater receivers and home theater in a box (HTiB) systems. The new models consist of three A/V receivers and three HTiB systems ranging in price from $299 to $599, and all of them support the new HDMI 1.4 connectivity standard for new 3D video displays and Audio Return Channel capabilities. All are exceptionally well equipped to provide a superior music, home theater sound and video experience, with high build-quality and offering excellent value.
Onkyo's new receivers and HTiBs now decode lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams, and include new 192-kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown PCM1690 DAC's that are highly resistant to clock jitter and provide a remarkable 113-dB dynamic range. The lineup includes Onkyo's new easy-to-setup overlaid onscreen graphical display that lets the user watch the program in the background while using the function menus. Additionally, all 2010 HDMI v1.4 models include a new feature call HDMI Thru. HDMI Thru allows content to pass through to the TV when the receiver is in a standby state.
The 5.1-channel TX-SR308 and 7.1-channel TX-SR508 round out this initial announcement of A/V Receivers from Onkyo. The TX-SR308 will be available in March with an MSRP of $299, a followed by the TX-SR508 in April for $399.
The HTiB package systems, which each consist of a receiver, speakers and a subwoofer, are the 5.1-channel HT-S3300 and 7.1-channel HT-S5300; the latter also includes an iPod dock. Thanks to the HDMI interface and the use of advanced Dolby and DTS codecs, all of these receivers and systems are also capable of decoding lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. The HT-S3300 will ship in March with an MSRP of $379, followed by the HT-S5300 in April for $599.
A third packaged system departs from the traditional HTiB form factor and uses a combination subwoofer and 3D Ready A/V receiver plus two front speakers. It uses Onkyo’s own Theater-Dimensional processor to create an immersive and convincing surround effect through just 2.1 channels. The HTX-22HDX has three HDMI v1.4 inputs, handles HD audio formats from DTS and Dolby; offers four distinct audio modes for gaming; and outputs for additional speakers. The HTX-22HDX will ship in May with a $349 MSRP.
"Onkyo's 2010 entry-level product line represents a significant jump over last year's line," said Paul Wasek, Onkyo USA's marketing manager. "We are excited to deliver this first wave of 3D capable products. By upgrading to 1.4, even on the least expensive HTiB, we have eliminated all HDMI pass-through products and allowed HD audio formats to be used across the line. The fact that consumers can now buy a THX-Certified receiver with 1080p upscaling, Burr-Brown DACs, PC input and more for under $600 shows Onkyo's clear commitment to delivering performance and value to consumers."
All of Onkyo's receivers offer exceptional connectivity options with as many as six HDMI inputs, plus component and composite video, numerous stereo input jacks, optical/coaxial digital inputs, and the popular front-panel connections on many models. Two models include Sirius Radio connections, and all these receivers incorporate Onkyo's proprietary Universal Port (U-Port) connector which simplifies connections to optional HD Radio tuners and iPod Docks (included with the HT-S5300).

 Intel today previewed platforms featuring the latest Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition processor and announced the latest release of Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers (Intel GPA) that will aid developers in optimizing game performance. In addition, Intel introduced a number of initiatives designed to spur innovation in the PC game developer community, and in support of the company's Visual Adrenaline and Intel Atom Developer programs.
Intel Core i7 980X Processor Extreme Edition Preview
Intel is previewing its latest PC platform the Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition processor, codenamed "Gulftown," the first 32nm, six-core processor with 12 computing threads. In addition, Game Developers Conference (GDC) attendees can see and experience applications enhanced for this new platform including newly released Sega Napoleon Total War, the soon-to-be-released Ubisoft RUSE, Geomerics Enlighten and Cakewalk Sonar all by visiting the Intel booth (South Hall, Booth 1212) and Intel lounge area during the event.
Intel GPA v3.0
Intel GPA helps PC game developers analyze and optimize game performance on Intel Architecture-based platforms. Intel GPA provides in-depth application analysis and customization that allows developers to easily pinpoint performance bottlenecks and optimize games for desktop PCs and laptops using Intel processors, chipsets and Intel HD Graphics.
With Intel GPA v3.0, developers can ensure their titles run on the full spectrum of Intel Core processors (e.g., Intel Core i3, Intel CoreTM i5 with Intel HD Graphics, Intel CoreTM i7, and Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition) and chipsets with a new platform-focused toolset. Game Developer Contests and Initiatives
Level Up 2010
In its fifth year, the Level Up 2010 game demo contest is a worldwide competition focusing on the major areas of game development with prizes worth thousands of dollars. As part of the competition, developers have access to development resources that take advantage of Intel processing power and a chance to gain recognition in the industry.
All game entries will be judged in one of three categories: "Best Game for a Desktop," "Best Game for a Laptop," and "Best Game for a Netbook." Finalists are also eligible to win prizes for "Best Sound Design," "Best Art Design," "Best Character Design" and "Best Graphics Performance." Participants will have access to development kits and software tools to help them along the way. Judges for this year's contest include industry notables Rick Raymo, Vic Davis, American McGee and Ralph Koster. Intel Atom Developer Challenge Winners, Next Round Announced
Launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Intel AppUp Center beta, an application storefront for netbooks, has been met with excitement by developers. More than 5,000 developers have already joined the Intel Atom Developer Program. Intel AppUp Center offers game developers access to the growing market opportunity for innovation on mobile devices, which has sparked the trend of "light gaming." In line with this trend, about half of the applications submitted to Intel AppUp Center are games. The Intel Atom Developer Challenge was created to further engage with and recognize developers who submit the most innovative and elegant apps.
The first Intel Atom Developer Challenge has come to a close, and the grand prize winners have been named. Music app GURU won "Most Innovative App" and puzzle game SMILES took "Most Elegant Application Design." Application developers Angus Hewlett and Michael Kasprzak each were awarded an all-expense-paid VIP trip to GDC 2010. The Dell Precision M4500 joins Dell's family of mobile workstations, which includes the world's most powerful 17-inch mobile workstation available today, the Dell Precision M6500.

 Eizo today announced three new 10.4-inch monitors to its DuraVision series for the industrial market. The new products are the DuraVision FDV1001, DuraVision FDV1001T, and DuraVision FDV1002.
The DuraVision FDV1001 is the base model as its features are shared by all three models such as a 640 x 480 native resolution, PC and video inputs, and an LED backlight. In addition to these features, the DuraVision FDV1001T comes with a touch screen and the DuraVision FDV1002 with a screen capture function. These three new monitors complement three other DuraVision products of the same screen size and with identical feature sets except the already available models have a 1024 x 768 native resolution. This wide breadth of products in the 10.4-inch size allows EIZO to meet the specialized needs of customers in a variety of industrial environments.
The DuraVision FDV1001T uses analog resistive touch display technology. It accepts touch input from both a bare and a gloved hand, making it suitable for both factories and clean rooms.
With the screen capture function of the DuraVision FDV1002, a still image in bitmap format can be captured and saved to a USB memory device simply by pressing a button on the front of the monitor. This function is ideal for capturing images from video sources or from a microscope.
All three monitors come with a white LED backlight that is mercury free, consumes less power than a standard CCFL backlight, and produces a maximum brightness of 450 cd/m2 for the DuraVision FDV1001 and DuraVision FDV1002 and 350 cd/m2 for the DuraVision FDX1001T. The contrast ratio is 700:1 for all three monitors.
For connecting to PCs, the monitors come with a D-Sub mini 15-pin analog input. Composite and S-Video inputs which support NTSC, PAL, and SECAM are also included for connecting to audio/visual equipment. To reduce noise (ghosting) with NTSC signals, both the composite and S-Video inputs have a 3-dimensional Y/C separation circuit.
To accommodate the requirements of various installation environments, the monitors are available in five different configurations: standard (with stand), free mount (no stand), chassis, panel mount, and rack mount.
For convenience when connected to an optical microscope, a cross-hair overlay can be applied to the screen. Three crosshair thicknesses and four different colors (black, white, green, red) are available in the on-screen display menu.
Additional Features
The cabinets do not contain ventilation holes and control buttons are completely sealed, making the monitors impervious to liquids and dust.
Underscan and normal display settings are included. The underscan setting shows 100% of an image and is ideal for video. The normal setting displays about 95% of the image, which eliminates extraneous TV broadcasting data that sometimes appears at the edges of the screen.

 Valve today revealed that it will develop Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac.
Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April.
"As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients," said Gabe Newell, President of Valve. "The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services."
"Our Steam partners, who are delivering over a thousand games to 25 million Steam clients, are very excited about adding support for the Mac," said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve. "Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge. For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play."
"We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, Director of Steam Development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."
Portal 2 will be Valve's first simultaneous release for Mac and Windows. "Checking in code produces a PC build and Mac build at the same time, automatically, so the two platforms are perfectly in lock-step," said Josh Weier, Portal 2 Project Lead. "We're always playing a native version on the Mac right alongside the PC. This makes it very easy for us and for anyone using Source to do game development for the Mac."

 Activision today announced an agreement with Anchor Bay Entertainment to release 10 Minute Solution, a video game for Wii based on the popular exercise DVDs. Coming this Spring, 10 Minute Solution will bring focused exercise activities to fitness fans with busy schedules, in an affordable and fun way.
"10 Minute Solution DVDs give users a unique fitness experience: customizable routines that fit into any lifestyle," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. "We've taken this concept and combined it with the interactivity of the Wii, creating a new kind of workout that gets results."
10 Minute Solution combines the ease of the popular fitness DVDs with casual gaming fun. The game allows players to construct regimens from a wide variety of 10 minute routine blocks, organized into three main categories: cardio boxing, mixed games and aerobics. 10 Minute Solution is designed to captivate fitness enthusiasts and gamers alike with intense routines that play as a game, unlike other fitness games that simply have the player following a trainer on screen. The game is enhanced when played with the Wii Balance Board(TM), but still offers a fantastic workout without it.
"Our legions of 10 Minute Solution DVD users will tell you these simple 10 minute exercises work," said Julie Cartwright, SVP Marketing at Anchor Bay Entertainment. "We are ecstatic to be partnering with Activision to do something progressive in the fitness gaming space."

 Kingston has introduced ultra-low voltage memory running at 1.25 volts at 1600MHz. The new offering is part of the new Kingston 'LoVo' (low voltage) HyperX DDR3 High-Performance memory product line. The dual-channel kit (Kingston part #: KHX1866C9D3LK2/4GX) comes preprogrammed with two XMP-ready profiles: 1.25 volts at 1600MHz and 1.35 volts at 1866MHz. The latter profile is also a world's first for speed matching higher frequency with a lower voltage.
"Kingston is proud to lead the charge with memory for the new generation of energy efficient systems that yield higher performance," said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston.
