Got in on the LG Optimus Black offer- thanks. This is one slick phone but eventually I'll be wanting a deal on a Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S4. NOT. That sh*t is overkill IMO, lol.
Good deal. ST was just the top plan when I was comparing versus some of the other pre-paid providers. Got the Samsung Galaxy S2 which was a no-brainer. Hopefully it will be eventually upgradable to Android 4.2. I'm thinking that Straight Talk will deliver the Galaxy S3 in 2014 and maybe even the iPhone 5. By then the Galaxy S4 will be out, and undoubtably the iPhone 5s or even iPhone 6 are available. My plan is to go with this phone for the next 18 months, and perhaps by then I can get the S4 or iPhone 6 with Straight Talk :-P.

Straight Talk is brought to you by TracFone Wireless and offers no contract phone plans that you can cancel anytime. Because of this you will find that Straight Talk phones are a little more expensive than regular contract plan phones but you can save big in the long term compared to other plans.

Has its downfalls, but overall a great service!

I switched to Straight Talk from an ATT contract about a year ago and between two phones, my fiance and I save $100 a month. They have a great phone selection. Plus, I don't have to pay an extra $25 a month for a smartphone data plan. Straight Talk has everything I need for $45 a month. I get excellent service at my house, which is out in the boonies, where most people don't. I also love my Android powered ZTE Merit through Straight Talk. Highly recommended!

Their main downfall is their customer service via telephone. Its very difficult to understand the customer service reps. Everytime I call its like this. I even had one customer service rep hang up on me because I couldn't understand a word she said. (and it also could've been the fact that I have a strong Arkansas accent) Straight Talk should hire people that speak clearer English!

Another complaint I have is that when I switched service providers, from ATT, it took Straight Talk 23 DAYS to transfer my existing phone number to my brand new Straight Talk phone. They sent me a new SIM card 7 times, but after all that time, wasted effort and many, many hours of speaking with customer service, I finally got to use my new phone. What sucked about that was that I added a $45 Unlimited 30 day plan upon activation. So my phone only had 7 days on it when I got to use it. $45 gone to waste!

All in all, the problems I experienced are uncommon, (Which is how my luck goes!) so I recommend this product to others. You're not going to find better bang for your buck!

Pros:
  • Save money
  • great reception
  • great phone selection
  • online features
  • Cons:
  • The only place to purchase airtime with cash is WalMart
  • poor customer service

    Samsung Galaxy Precedent

Was looking to upgrade my LG Straight Talk phone. The Samsung Galaxy Precedent, the first Straight Talk phone with Android is going to be a nice replacement for it. Ironically I have a Android 3 Honeycomb tablet (Acer Iconia) but no Android smartphone. Keep it under two Benjamins and I'll be a repeat phone customer of yours, ST.

Poor service and satisfaction. Already have phone with active account and active phone number. Went to change phones on my account as I needed a different phone due to my phone acting up. They deactivated my phone when they gave me the new phone. And then when they activated my new phone, they gave me a different number and said it was cause I had my phone deactivated. Well, they said that they can't activate the new phone without first deactivating the current phone. All I was doing was replacing phones to the same account that is already being used and is in middle of a service cycle. I was in the middle of a 30 day cycle, so approx halfway thru the cycle. So... How the heck do I end up with a new phone number????????????? This is just ridiculous. And they wouldn't even compensate me. She just said... There's nothing I can do. Told me that I have to deactivate my phone so they can activate the new phone and then said they couldn't give me my same number cause the old phone was deactivated. This just doesn't make sense to me. They said that the number goes back into the cycle. But, it shouldn't do it that quick when you are in the middle of changing phones out of an active account. This just doesn't make any sense to me. Now, I can't get onto my onlne account as I have already had been online before and since all this, it now says I don't have a phone when I log into my account online. When I put in my phone number, it says it isn't a valid phone number. So, if you decide that you want to upgrade your current phone, you will be given a new phone number. This is just such BULL CRAP!!!!!!!!

My old number was soooooo good. 815-218-8248. Easy number. Now I have a 815-668- phone number. Nothing close at all.

DON'T GET STRAIGHT TALK! sounds great..$45 unlimited usage but what isn't great is the constant disconnected service for no reason at all and the fact that they actually gave away my number one of those times...and anytime u speak with CS it takes a min. of 1hr and sometimes more before they can fix the problem. Also Internet service doesn't work, they fixed this once but when they shut my phone off for no reason AGAIN, it stopped working and they cant fix it. CS is hard to talk to but worse they almost refuse to let u talk to their supervisor. One guy actually got back on the phone and pretended to be the supervisor and when asked his name, he hesitated trying to come up with a name. The only reason i have stayed with them is that i cant loose this number right now. If you want a service that you will loose ur service at any given moment, spend hrs talking to CS to solve a problem, and understand that u will not receive all the services u pay for...then i guess this is the service provider for u. If u choose to go with them anyway, good luck and hopefully it works out for u cuz if so its a good deal. I am a real person, not employed by the company or its affiliates. These problems are real and I would rate them a 0 if it was an option.

Be careful which phone you buy!!!

I was very excited when I finally got my Samsung SCHM828C Android phone. Unfortunately I didn't get to use it very long. I was not made aware of what tower's it would get service from. I can be in middle of town and have no service, in this area at all. After spending over $200 I had to purchase another phone,Samsung SGH-T528G (GP)cost me close to same. It's no where near as awesome as my Android. However it has service almost every where. Other than being really let down and stuck with extra phone I've been with Straight Talk 4 yr's. You can not beat the $45 unlimited package. I think we should have a way to return phones which are in very good condition for discounts on newer/updated phone's.

    Pros:
  • The best unlimited package $45. Easy payment method.
  • Cons:
  • Can not understand customer service rep's. They should speak English and be willing to help you by listening to you thoroughly. Not talking at you

Went on a road trip with some friends recently, and it was a huge eye opener with regards to cell phones. Not only did my Straight Talk phone have overall better signal (and yes, there were times when friends had better signal, but far more times in my favor), but I heard endless complaints about overages, extra "unknown" fees and the drama of trying to sort these out. Yes, Straight Talk's customer service isn't what one would wish for, but it seems a lot of the other carrier's cs also have 2nd rate service. Considering I'm only paying $45 for unlimited everything, compared to their bills of twice that, I'm happy to take my chances with Straight Talk's customer service. I must say, I wonder at the huge price difference- I have a pretty decent phone(the r355c) on a really good network- seems weird that I also pay so much less.

I just switched from Alltell to Straight Talk. I signed up for the $45 per month unlimited text and calling, and so far, it is working great. With Alltell, I was not getting my calls, or I was sitting right there, and friends were calling me and getting a message that I wasn't available. The sound quality was terrible. I would get voice mails the next day. Call waiting would cause the person I was talking to to be dropped. I could go on. I was paying $57 a month for a limited number of minutes and if someone wasn't in my circle, I ran the risk of overages. Straight Talk ported my number in less than four hours. They immediately called me after I registered it on line, like in 5 minutes. The customer service rep was very hard to understand though, sounded like very strong Chinese accent, and that is why I'm giving it a 4, because I can only imagine trying to communicate should I have a problem. She was polite though. No contract is a real plus! I was stuck with Alltell for a year, and I was counting down the days to be able to drop them. When I finally did, I had to fight them about a supposed and sudden overage after a year of having none...suspicious practice if you ask me. I suddenly owed $199 and I had not broken my contract. One customer service rep hung up on me when I asked what number the supposed overages was to. The other said a manager would call me and never did. Finally, the last person hooked me up with a manager who cared and found out it was a mistake on their part and credited me. This is so much easier. Pay your $45 each month and no surprises or being held hostage!

I do not believe the STRAIGHT TALK service is for people who do not use texting as a means of communication. The voice service is awful. I was using the phone in an area that was supposedly covered or in the "service area". Through the entire conversation there was a buzzing noise like a prehistoric mosquito and the person talking to me was broken up so badly, I felt that I was having a conversation with myself. I contacted STRAIGHT TALK as I have only had the phone & service for 6 days and asked if there was any chance of getting a refund on the minutes. They trouble shot my phone, and it did not fix the problem. They offered to send me another phone to replace the one I have, however, if that did not fix the problem, I would have to request a refund from them, mail the phone back and wait 7-10 days for a refund. I opted to keep the phone that I have, return it to the store that I purchased it from and lose the minutes I purchased. As soon as I get my SIM card from AT&T, I will be going back to them. I feel that this service is designed more for texting than actual talking. My neice has it and she is perfectly happy with the service. Live & learn.

    straight talk for a year

i have been with straight talk for a year n in that time have had 3 phones all due to problems with the phone i.e. black screen would start dialing by itself and turn on and off by itself. When i would try to get tech support was on phone for 5 hours between being hung up on or put on hold n being on hold for a hour at a time n then disconnected unreal ... was thinking of getting an android phone but I'm just not sure anymore.

    Cons:
  • can't understand tech support people. they tell you they are gonna do something and they don't

Ive had my service with Straight Talk for almost 2 years. Ive only had one horrible experience...added unlimited card and phone was working but next day and 3 days after I had no service and couldnt get customer service until I went to pay phone and called toll free number. Oh and also bought new phone so I had to get new number. They couldnt explain what happened!! I would still highly recommend getting this service. A Straight Talk Retail Sales Rep told me to always get a phone that has a "C" at the end of the model #. It uses the Verizon network!! I've never lost signal!! I wish they had better phones to pick from

I bought a refurb phone and $30 plan for my son at Christmas. Great phone, great deal. He's since upgraded to unlimited. He's really pleased with the whole deal. In fact I'm switching my husband and myself over to straightalk. We've always had prepaid service (not wanting ONE MORE BILL)andthis seems to fit what we want.

verything is great except the choice of phones. But you need to watch for phone deals on their site. Moving my number from a GSM network to CDMA could not have been easier or faster. They said it would be complete in 24 hours. It took about 15 minutes till the phone received a text, & 5 more till I made my first call.

I had a Straight Talk 2 months ago when I was travelling the country. It had awsome battery life, it kept going for DAYS while i was hitchiking through the mountains and had no charger of my own. The picture quality was brilliant and i had crisp service no matter what WILDERNESS i got myself into. No wonder it was stolen...

I'm buying another one today and i can't WAIT to get it in the mail and finally be free of VERIZON'S evil clutches.

i despise walmart, with a bloody passion, but i recommend this service to anybody.

BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING A USED STRAIGHT TALK PHONE.

I haven't actually activated my Straight Talk phone yet. I bought mine used, and didn't know that the serial number on the phone is automatically attached to an account for the previous owner. I tried to activate it and was told I needed to answer the security questions the previous owner had put in place. That was a little surprising. It would be nice if the company would let you know that about the phones, or maybe put a different method in place.

So I'm currently trying to get in touch with the previous owner so I can actually use the phone that they sold me. It's super inconvenient, but maybe the low price will make up for it once I actually start using it.

ANY Reputable Phone company will ask for a Password, before reviewing an account. Its only Common Sense. Ever bought a 2nd hand computer? People also have passwords saved there as well, so if you dont know the password, I think Id ask when buyin any ELECTRONIC now a days... Its simply Common sense my friend.. =)

having unlimited calling is great because i talk on the phone all of the time. the downside...for some may be big for others, may not be too big of a deal, the internet does not work. i have called customer service tech support, probably 10 times since i have had the phone, (this is going into my second month) to try to straighten out this thing with being unable to connect to the internet. no results, only long bouts of turning the phone off and on, resetting the phone (which actually disconnected my service for a few minutes and i could not make or receive calls) and several "ticket numbers" created with no actual resolution. other than that, the phone works great and reception is great. would i pay $45 bucks again for the same service without internet...heck yeah. i have a netbook for getting online. and compared to the $160-$200 a month i was paying for t-mobile unlimited with two lines, this is a steal.

very poor customer service, has not ported

a existing number for over 6 days !

The operators can not get to the people who

    can make things happen

4 emails and 3 phone conversations and still

no service, customer service model is broken

    and very slow follow thru.

Porting a number to a new provider should take

a few hours, not a week! If your phone works

find, but if you need customer service, GOOD LUCK

I would have choosen 0 but I wasnt given that option. Everyone should get the word out about how they trat their customers once they get their money and how poor their technical suppport is. I have been on day two waiting to have my phone activated. the got my money as I bought a prepaid card from Walmart (dont try complaing to Walmart they just tell you to contact Tracfone) Called back today and was told try it again in 24 hours. Asked to be compensated for my days and was only told we do not compensate. Informed them to just refund my money and they wont do that either.. Doesnt matter if you paid for a service and they can fix their own glitches!!! I contacted to BBB & FCC. Everyone should do that as well to make sure that they get reported. They are ripping people off and something needs to be done about it.

Im A new customer to straight talk phones but, I live in a town where the reception does not work. I live in a town called Jackson. its about 115 miles south from reno. The reception does not work up here and it would be nice if Straight Talk would have working towers for reception here as well. It would be a perfect ten as far as the phone goes. Other then that I have no complaints. But to whoever reads these reviews, please try and get reception in the areas around Jackson and Martell California. (95642) thank you for your time.

phone with sim card wont work at my house

My Motorola flip phone has a sim card and will not work at my house. After calling s/t tech 20 times and buying 3 new phones.(they told me phone was defective). After 20 calls realized that a phone with a sim card will not work and a phone without a sim will work. (my son bought a phone w/o a sim and his works fine). The techs can barley speak English and even if you get one you can understand they don't listen to you. They told me they would send me a phone w/o a sim and when it arrived 2 weeks later it was the same model I sent in. Guess what still dont work!...I called again and they said I have good coverage and that is the only phone I will get...Tech support is like talking to a 4 yr old...They listen but don't understand or don't care. bottom line straight talk sux...on my way to the Verizon store

    Pros:
  • cheap
  • Cons:
  • spotty reception.....worst tech support in the world...broken English internet phone connection that breaks up..to much more to list

I will never use another cell company. Straight Talk has, by far, the best service plans and products. Now I just use my old iPhone to play music :) Thanks Straight Talk!

My experience with Straight Talk has been pretty great. I switched when my buddy told me I could get unlimited everything for 45 bucks and no contract, which sounded great because I was in grad school and about to get hit with the loans. Since I've had it, only one dropped call. The internet isn't 3G fast but it works well and it's a great bang for the buck.

Everything is great except the choice of phones. But you need to watch for phone deals on their site. Moving my number from a GSM network to CDMA could not have been easier or faster. They said it would be complete in 24 hours. It took about 15 minutes till the phone received a text, & 5 more till I made my first call.

Not bad. I think I'll stay for a while.

Straight Talk/Trac Phone has great coverage, good price ($30), but miserable customer servive. I would rather walk thru hot coals than call their customer service. But the phones and coverage are better than AT&T.

I have used Straight Talk for well over a year. It is a great value. I dealt with customer service and got a great response. I bought a new phone and had my service transferred. I noticed the neax day I was not receiving texts. Everything else worked perfectly. The customer service rep checked a few things and said he fixed the problem. My son sent me a text and lo and behold it was fixed. I have bought newer phones and transferred my service more than once and this was the only time it didnt go smoothly. I would reccomend it to anyone who wants a cell phone without being taken to the cleaners.

my wife and I have Verizon wireless for 7 years and just recently changed over to Straight talk and Can't believe how good the service is; we we're paying with Verizon $200.00 a month plus taxes with two data packages and 1400 mins shared on both our phones now we pay only about 90 bucks almost half the price and it unlimited. still have the same awesome coverage as we did before. the only thing I noticed about Straight talk is that if you're in the mall your phone service may not work due to the thick concrete and floors. but I never checked My Verizon phone to see if it worked either. so I would have to say if you have a Verizon phone see if it works in the mall.

My Opinion, CDMA coverage is very good in Iowa, however the CDMA available phones, are quickly becoming "below average". GSM (AT&T)coverage, as most know, tends to be sub par here. But, with the recent introductions of GSM phones, like, the nokia's & LG900 GSM phone selection is better. Customer service, is very poor. I'm guessing, "it's a get what you pay for" sort of thing. If, the recently added GSM's had better coverage, or were available in CDMA, I would rate the service at a 4. CS ability to resolve the few issues that arise, would need to greatly improve to rate a 5.
