misleading prices . sharp practice

i rented from this outfit. their receipt stated in large letters PAID IN FULL. On collecting the car from Dollar rentalcars.com Florida, they attempted to charge previously undisclosed amounts of $60 insurance *I have my own US policy and $70 fuel. My intended travel was 30 miles. I refused the car. Dollar agent explained such complaints are common from Rentacar.com

The law covering Distance Selling Regulations state they must detail all charges. Despite being wrong Rentalcars.com refuse to refund.They are clearly mis-selling and operate sharp practice.

Others similarly affected should complain as I to the credit card company in the hopes they will withdraw their contract. In America, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Uk government Consumer Protection Department as well as rent car industry trade organizations - IF this company is accepted as member.

    NEVER rentalcars.com again

    Booked a car on the internet 22nd December for pick up Munich 26th. My credit card was charged immediately. Received their confirmation....awaiting final confirmation from the local rentalcar company. The expected time to receive the requested confirmation and the voucher was moved every hour for an hour ahead. Tried to contact them by phone and mail....nothing happened, until I sent a mail, telling them if there was no car after my arrival to Munich, I'll go straight to the police. While I was sitting in the plane i received a cancellation and a message my credit card has been debited...great, arriving to Munich 9 pm, no reserved car.....and only car available from Europecar at a charge of 506 Euro, the original booked car was Euro 200.

    Contacted their customer service and asked for compensation, as the fault is clearly on their side... but their was nothing to do..."they handled my reservation correctly"...never heard that a broker company need 4 days to find out they cancel a paid reservation....no service, no style.....stay away

    Keep away!

    Do NOT use rentalcars.com.

    These guys are a dodgy outfit with terrible company policies and even worse customer service.

    On arrival at the Hertz desk at my destination I was informed that the reservation I had made through rentalcars.com did not include all of the relevant taxes and could not be used.

    Now (no surprises after reading the other reviews), rentalcars.com won't refund my money! First they used the excuse that I was a late cancellation and/or no-show (customer disservice just fire off pre-stored responses without any regard toward your actual request), and now they're saying that they don't give refunds to bookings that were not completed. How could I complete it when Hertz legally could not give me the car!

    Keep away. Far, far away.

    Scammers.

    Scammers. Bait and switch operation. They doubled by car rental and added in extra fees. Think you're hiring a car for $67 - you'll be paying $265, just wait and see.

    What a SCAM!!

    They took my money and when I was on the other side of the world, the rental company didn't exist. The phony voucher looked like a Budget voucher except they deleted a number from the Budget res. # and they also switched the 3rd from last # in the local phone contact, assuring I would never contact an actual Budget employee/ OUTRAGEOUS!!

    Do NOT trust their representations on CDW

    Do not use rentalcars.com. They offered me a good price on a rental in Sicily in June, and even called me about it. Their agent, who called me from England, assured me that if I took their deal, it would include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and there would be no need to by additional insurance because the car would be fully covered. We declined the hard-sell additional insurance at the counter in Palermo, took the car, and it was promptly damaged- slightly- in a parking lot. I was charged over $500 for the minor damage (on my credit card) and now rentalcars.com refuses to acknowledge ANYTHING and will not honor the CDW despite assuring me otherwise to induce me to take the car. DO NOT TRUST THEIR REPRESENTATIONS. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE after they make their sale.

    Bad exprience at Rentalcars.com

    Booked a car thru their Hongkong branch with a GPS in July 2012,

    when arrived at Dubai,they don't have GPS! The guy at National told

    me it's ok to cancel and they are ok. But rentalcras refuse to give

    me money back after the agreed cancellation. After a long time

    negotiation, they agreed to get the money back and told me to wait.

    After 2 weeks, a guy from a different department told me that they

    can not do the reimbursement. The money is not a big deal after so

    many months, but their attitude and services are so bad and chaotic,

    never use their services again!

    Renter Beware of deceptive insurance offered

    When I reserved my car through this company, I was offered a collision damage waiver for an additional $11 per day. There was NO indication that this was not offered through the rental car company (Budget) other than the fact that my credit card would be charged immediately for this insurance, which should have been a red flag, but I didn't think much more about it. When I got to the rental car company to pick up my car, I was asked if I wanted to add Budget's damage waiver insurance to the rental for an additional $25 per day. I told the representative that I thought I had already paid for it. She informed me that what I had purchased was third party insurance that IS NOT RECOGNIZED by the rental car company. So I purchased Budget's insurance. After I returned the car, I emailed Rentalcars.com, asking them to refund my $11. This was their response (verbatim, including grammar and spelling) from their representative, Amy McVey: "The cover offered by Budget is optional. In the case that you have had an accident you will need to pay Budget for the damage caused and then make a claim thoguh us. It was not necessary to take their insurance as well as ours. As you have already rented the vehicle we cannot now refund the insurance." If you do choose to use Rentalcars.com, I recommend that you NOT waste your money on their collision damage insurance. It only covers accidents, and YOU have to pay the rental car company for the damages and then try to get Rentalcars.com to reimburse you! I will NEVER USE THIS SITE AGAIN.     It's very simple: the CDW that any "third party" sells (including Rentalcars.com) is not part of the provider's contract. (The "provider" is the rental company -- in your case, Budget.) How can it be? Budget didn't sell it to you, and they wouldn't have any knowledge of it.

    That's the nature of "third party" insurance; similar to the coverage your credit card offers when you charge a car rental (at least in the U.S.) -- that's also "third party", and the provider has no knowledge of this coverage. "Third party" insurance will definitely be much, much cheaper than buying direct from the provider, but you'll have more hoops to jump through if you have a claim.

    Budget, naturally, will try to sell you their own CDW. This is how they make money. In fact, since the agent is probably on commission, that's how he pays for this week's groceries. Read "Hard Sell". Since you already have "third party insurance" (in your case, from Rentalcars.com), you simply decline Budget's (inflated) CDW coverage.

    You can hardly blame Rentalcars.com for this mixup. And you certainly can't blame Budget for trying to extort your money with high-pressure sales tactics ("We don't recognize your third-party coverage" means exactly that: it's extraneous to their contract with you. In other words, if there's a claim, it's between you and Rentalcars.com, not between you and Budget. That's how "third-party" insurance works.)

    You should know what insurance you have, and how it works. You already purchased Rentalcars.com coverage, so simply decline Budget's coverage. But if you have a claim (say, they charge you $1000 for a scratch on the hood), you'll have to "pay" Budget and then file a claim with your "third-party" insurer (in your case, Rentalcars.com). This isn't deceptive, it's not a run-around, it's how things work. That's what "third party" means.

    BEWARE! HIDDEN CHARGES

    I rented a car I France through rentalcars.com only to find an additional 39Euro "airport fee" PLUS $750 required deposit which was not listed when I made my reservation. When I called rentalcars.com customer service, they didn't care one iota. I will never use their service again and I caution you to beware their business practices.

    This is a scam company!!!

    NO NO NO DO NOT USE RENTALCARS.COM!!!

    I reserved a car with Rentalcars.com and paid full in advance. When I showed up at Le Havre station in France on 7/24/2013, the car I booked was not available at a local Avis office. No explanations. No apologies. I was not able to pick up a car. Car was not there!!!

    Later on, I checked my bank statement. Rentalcars.com took $300 (233 euro) from my account. I soon requested a refund from them. It took them a month to finish the investigation. Then, the result of the investigation I just received was "Sorry, but No refund for you." Unfortunately, I paid with a debit card, so that's it. I lost money.

    This IS a scam company. I paid money and they took the money, but the product was not there for the customer. Do not use this company to book a car.

    Rentalcars.com WARNING! Stole my money!

    June, 2013: My wife and I vacationed in Italy and needed a car for a couple of days. I rented the car from Rentalcars.com online and prepaid for my rental. This is the only way they would book it.

    I went to the Florence train station where they said the car rental agency was located and found none. So, we took a taxi to the car agency address a few miles away. The agency office was out of business and their phone was disconnected. I then took a taxi to the airport and tried to rent it from their agency at the airport. We were shunned from the ticket counter where they rudely refused to help us. We then rented from Hertz at significantly more money, but at least they were friendly and gave us excellent service.

    I then sent an email to Rentalcars.com explaining the situation and asking them to refund my money. Rentalcars.com had a standard reply stating it typically takes 28 days or more to process.

    Below is their actual reply almost a month later. Note that I couldn't even reply to their email...

    Computer Says NO

    After problems with their online cancellation process (which I attempted well in advance of hire date) meant I apparently didn't give sufficient notice when it eventually did register prior to my rental I thought it would be a simple matter of contacting them to ask for my money back.

    This was after thorough efforts to notify both them and the local rental company of the cancellation in advance to compensate for the online problems.

    In the end 'the computer said no' and they prefer to loose a customer and keep the money rather than say give a voucher to cover some or all of the loss.

    Their responses are inconsiderate of the financial damage caused and think it's fit to merely quote terms and conditions in response.

    Customer service that prefers to fight tooth and nail to deprive customers like this only looses in the end as I won't use them again and I hope you'll take note.

    Never Again

    Used Rentalcars.com to book a car for short break on Palma de Mallorca and arrived to collect a mid-sized car from Gold Cars. First, we were charged 33 Euros for additional insurance, then 118 Euros for a full tank of fuel and told to return the car empty. When questioned, we were told that the booking only had the minimum legal requirement for insurance and that we could only expect a fuel refund if the rental period did not exceed 3 days. We were also asked if a Smart Car would be acceptable rather than a 5-door that we had booked. Needless to say we declined and requested what we had booked. We felt totally ripped-off and will never use these people again. As with the other reviews we have now read - read the reviews and believe them before you book anything, then you know what you are likely to face.

    Missleading costs

    These guys offer cheap rental rates but do not properly disclose all the manditory fees. Alamo charged for a manditory full tank of gas $90.00 - even retuyrning the car full. Total rip-off and probably in violation of CA consumer laws.

    Don't use this company!!!

    I booked and prepaid for a rental car to use in Grand Cayman for 10 days. Upon arrival I was told that the company I had been assigned to (Sixt) had no cars available. I contacted rental cars and they said that Sixt would have to do an investigation so that I could "chase down a refund". Sixt said they had nothing to do with it, since they did not even receive money until after the rental date. I went to Visa and they opened a dispute case and had my money back on the card in two days. I don't trust either of these companies now. The car I had to find ended up being several hundred dollars more that what I had budgeted for.

    1) you really know the real rental conditions only after you have paid 2) if you book, like me, the day before, you cannot cancel the booking, even if you realise that the final conditions are not what you were expecting. Pros: none Cons: misleading pricing information

    Enterprise over charges

    I have dealt with Enterprise on several occasions and each time I have had to call back and deal with them "accidentally" over charging and each time I get "we are sorry and will refund you the money immediately" Latest trip to San Juan Puerto Rico I return the car within 24 hours, I did get a GPS for the day and I sign paid in full at the rental car agency when I leave post them inspecting the car and my bill was $57. Then I check my credit card statement 6 days later and it is $115.09 I call them up and the agent states that I had a gps which added to my rental cost. I tell her that it was 10.99 a day for the gps and my car rental was 47 dollars plus the gps to total 57 dollars. I then get the oh we charged you for the week for the gps. Did you not use it for a week? I had to explain again that I had the car for a total of 22 hours and that I returned it within and the gps came with it... So tired of companies pulling stunts like this. Always check your credit card statement post "paying in full" because they love to overcharge and most people don't pay attention and never notice.

    I had to pay a cancellation fee of 95 Euro even I didn't cancel the car.

    When I arrived in Sacramento at the counter of Hertz, they couldn't give me a car because of their overbooking.

    Rentalcars.com website guarantees a booked car. Even on my confirmation e-mail they stated:

    You are guaranteed a car from a leading supplier. In this case it was not true.

    After Hertz couldn't give me the booked car and refused to call Rentalcars.com, I was sent to a different rental car company.

    I tried from Sacramento to call Rentalcal.com. My rental agreement says:

    International Phone number: 0044 161 830 5908

    Our team is here to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

    But an automated voice said that I should call during business hours.

    [9/18/2014 2:26:01 AM] *** Call to +441618305908, duration 00:45. ***

    [9/18/2014 2:27:03 AM] *** Call to RentalCars.com, no answer. ***

    Then, I wrote an e-mail through Rentalcars.com website and let them know about this issue.

    They confirmed the e-mail on Fri, Sep 19, 2014 4:17 pm under [3666901-1411069268]

    I asked again to reimburse me the full amount.

    As stated in our cancellation policy if the rental is cancelled, refused due to insufficient documentation or for failure to provide a valid credit card we must be informed at the time of pick up. We will then cancel your booking as per our terms and conditions below.

    CANCELLATIONS RESERVATIONS FULLY PAID FOR AT THE TIME OF BOOKING:

    Can be cancelled online free of charge up to 48 hours before the start of the rental. Reservations cancelled within 48 hours of the start of the rental will be charged a fee equal to a 3 day rental. There will be no refund or additional charge for reservations less than 3 days in duration. Where the vehicle cannot be picked up due to insufficient documentation or failure to provide a valid credit card this will be treated as a cancellation made within 48 hours provided we are advised at the pick-up time.

    I rented a car for my wife and I through Rentalcars.com via the internet for use during the first part of our honeymoon in Florida. I was unexpectedly immediately charged for the rental, but figured that that was fine, as it was one less expense that we would have to deal with later. The rental was for a car from Dollar. When we got there, they refused to rent us the car, and said I had to hold a foreign drivers license (??). The counter help was not at all helpful, and became rude and belligerent, which made the matter worse. They were willing to rent me a car, but I would have had to pay all over again, at a much higher price. We ended up renting through another company who gave us a great price with no troubles. Later when I contacted Rentacars.com for a refund, they refused to even consider the matter for review, and flatly refused to refund my money. Dealing with my credit card company now to make sure these guys do not get paid for a service which they did not provide.

    I made reservations, they charged me right away, when I arrived to pick up the car at Utah airport at Alamo, they refused to rent it out to me, cause I did not have my passport with me, but diver's license, credit car and email print out with reservation confirmed.     Beware - this car hire broker consider a Toyota Camry 'similar' to a Dodge Charger because they are both 'full size' cars!! When searching for a car to hire in Canada for two weeks, I spotted a Dodge Charger 'or similar', via rentalcars.com, from Thrifty, so I blew my budget and paid extra money for the opportunity to drive something State-side and agreed to pay almost £500 for two weeks hire. I placed a deposit last month and received a confirmation stating that I had booked a Dodge Charger 'or similar'. Rentalcars.com then took the remaining money off my credit card this week and sent me a confirmation for a booking for a Toyota Camry 'or similar'. When I complained they said : "Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience but it would appear that the supplier may have had a change in their fleet from when you originally booked. Please note that we also do not guarantee make or model of vehicle. Therefore even though you may have originally booked for a Dodge Charger or similar, it was never guaranteed that the vehicle given on the day of your arrival was going to be that"

    So they are prepared to take the money for a Dodge Charger or similar (which is more expensive than if I'd booked a Toyota Camry or similar in the first place) but not prepared to give me one and not offer me at least the difference in hire cost. They're prepared to take my money but not prepared to warn me first that what I was paying for was no longer available.

    So lets examine what their definition of similar is shall we?

    Dodge Charger - 3.6L V6 292BHP 5 speed semi-auto rear wheel drive

    Toyota Camry - 2.5L 169BHP 6 speed manual front wheel drive

    But because they are both classed as 'full size' cars, my booking has been bumped from one to another with no notification and no price change. And because I paid a deposit for the Dodge Charger, I now have a cancellation charge of over £60 if I don't want to pay more than everyone else for my Toyota Camry

    Shoddy way to be treated and I will NEVER use these people again. This is a case of comparing apples and pears and being told they're the same because they're both fruit!

    rentalcars - bunch of thieves!

    I did my rental on-line; at the time of booking, it stated that no credit card fees will be withdrawn to find later that my credit card was charged the full amount. The problem is not here. At the time my wife was trying to pick-up the car using an international driving license, she knew that she was missing an additional local one and hence couldn't receive the car. When I asked for a refund, they refused claiming that missing information at time of booking results in 100% cancellation fees!! they charged me money for a service I didn't use. They are simply a bunch of thieves! Keep away from them.

    DON'T USE RENTALCARs.com!! BEWARE

    2 car rentals from this outfit in one month. JUST DON'T USE THEM, too many scams and excuses. In BOTH cases charges by the supplier came the minute we dropped the cars off. Europcar add $250 with no explanation, now being disputed by rentalcar.com. No surprise after 28 days Europcar did not reply. Now into another 28 days as rentalcar.com continues to investigate and europcar accrues interest on my money. Other issue was a small scratch (HERTZ Geneva) charged immediately upon car return (without any professional repair estimates) and our declining the CDW. This round $477 which is patently illegal. We have rented cars for decades in many countries. This triangle of companies is finding ways to make money by wearing out customers who don't have the time to file complaints.

    Two Months and Still NO REFUND ....060 892

    I submitted a claim since September 19, 2016. I have made several telephone calls to Rentalcars.comcustomer service and spoke to several of your employees, but as of today, I still have not received my refund. Today when I called Rentalcars.com, I spoke to someone in your organization who said her name was "Merte or Messiette" and when I asked to speak to a supervisor told me that they were none available and that I need to call back tomorrow morning. This has been going on since September. Rentalcars.com has all the paperwork/documents from me since September 19, 2016. We are now in November - Nov 15, 2016 - and I still do not have my refund from Rentalcars.com.

    Do NOT use rentalcars.com. When you pay for insurance they actually do not cover anythinf. You still need to pay the actual rental car company for any damages and then TRY and get rentalcars.com to pay. Good luck with that!

    I had a very bad experience with rentalcars.com. I booked a car for Germany through their app and the qoutes do not indicate that prices are for cars with limited milage. I only found that out when i reviewed the confirmation email carefully. I then tried to change at the last minute and rentalcars changed me to a car with unlimited milage at hertz. The sales person at rentalcars.com asked me whether i had a credit card which i confirmed. He mentioned, then i will not have to take out additional insurance. - however, when i arrived at the hertz desk, they explained to me that the bookong through rentalcars.com would require additional insurance: approx. Eur 400 for 5 days. Therefore, be careful with booking through rentalcars.com. You have to carefully read the fine print, otherwise you will find out only at the rental location that your car will cost you much more than what they have quoted. The Hertz sales staff knows the problem and indicated to me that i am not the first customer of rentalcars.com that became a vuctim of their misleading quotes.

    Paid Collision Damage Coverage Not Honored By AVIS When Pick-up

    The money I paid for Collision Damage Coverage upon reservation is totally a waste! We I picked up my reservation at AVIS, they told me the Collision Damage Coverage I paid here was "third party" and they have nothing to do with it. I have to purchase again the same coverage from AVIS in order to be covered. And it's too late to ask for refund at pick-up time when I realized this. I feel like being stolen my hard-earned money. Will never rent car here again ever. Be aware!

    RENTALCARS.COM and HERTZ let me down without car in Puerto Rico

    In December 12, 2015 RENTALCARS.COM accepted my reservation request (Booking Reference Number: 359508952), which presupposes not only the existence of the offered vehicle as well as its availability for the requested period (Dec 26 to Jan2).

    At time of booking I made an advance payment of the fees ($ 361.00), which was immediately charged in my credit card.

    Before the trip, I received a number of messages with the offer of an "upgrade" to change the car reservation for a bigger car which, consequently, would make me incur in greater expense. This fact (upgrade offers) , incidentally, presupposed the existence and availability not only of the vehicle reserved by me but also other vehicles availability, ie this insistent offer presupposed the existence and availability of even more vehicles for the period.

    By the pick-up day and time of the reserved vehicle (Saturday night – 7pm), I was told by Hertz employee that there were no vehicles available (??????). As absurd as this fact (shortage of vehicles even reserved and prepaid) is the non-receipt of any prior notice by RENTALCARS.COM or HERTZ; so that we could prepare ourselves for changing our vacation plans.

    Well, I and other customers were waiting for the manager and, as she did not come, we went to meet him at the airport garage HERTZ facilities. The manager reported that customers had not returned already rented vehicles and that we should come back the next day (Monday – Dec 28). So, after several hours spent in waiting and arguments, I had no other alternative than taking a taxi to my destination (Hotel Gran Melia - Rio Grande ); 19 miles far from the airport. I was supposed to have a happy dinner with my family in the way, but we have a late and expensive dinner in the hotel.

    The next day (Sunday) I called HERTZ Puerto Rico and was informed of the lack of vehicles available in Puerto Rico not only that day but also there would be no vehicles available until the weekend (when I was supposed to drop off the car). I tried to call HERTZ customer services, but it only works in business days (…).

    In sequence called RENTALCARS.COM and the clerk also emphasized the inexistence of any rental vehicles in Puerto Rico and, as an alternative, commented that I could book any vehicle, anywhere and excessive price would be refunded for you. The next day (Sunday – Dec. 29), I called several local vehicles car rentals, which had no vehicles available until the next weekend. In sequence, I called RENTALCARS.COM again and the clerk apologized and said he had nothing to do. So, I said I would keep try to have my vacation trip as possible and, further, draw and present a travel report with my transportation spending and would wait for its evaluation.

    I like to show my displeasure and to stress that RENTALCARS.COM and HERTZ have destroyed my vacation plan. In planning my vacation, I had the option (1) to stay in San Juan and make short taxi trips and sightseeing in group tours (excursions) or (2) book a resort and rent a car to travel around.

    I decided for the second option and I booked a more comfortable and expensive hotel outside the capital (Gran Melia Rio Grande) counting on the rental vehicle, just to easily move me around the island without getting stuck in the metropolitan traffic and do not incur costs with parking; thus having more schedule time flexibility for tourism and shopping.

    In addition, the rented vehicle would enable me to save some money by reducing costs as the room I had booked has kitchen; which would enable me to make breakfasts and quick meals with purchased food a grocery store.

    Still, the vehicle would enable me to make main meals outside the hotel, which, as I have mentioned, is a hotel with international cuisine restaurants and highly expensive.

    Lack of vehicle also spoiled my plans to meet the islands of Culebra and Vieques; also, limited my visit to El Yunque forest and the historical district of San Juan (Old San Juan).

    As a result of the frustrated rental:

    I got stuck in the hotel more than I supposed to – so, I incurred in higher food costs and had my food options limited;

    Year-end party not enjoyed - as I thought I would have had a vehicle, I have not booked me and my family participation in the Meliá year-end party; so we were out of the party with no options as the hotel is a resort some miles far from safe places (...);

    My mobility was more limited and more expensive – as stuck in a resort, there were not so many taxis and thereby I incurred in large waiting time for getting back and forth;

    I could not go to tourist spots - could not book groups (excursions) to certain sights and for that I was, I was limited by the duration and path, which was not part of my plans;

    Unexpected costs – Due to the frustrated rental, I had to make several international phone calls I not expected to make.

    I could not shop effectively supermarket - with already commented, was part of my vacation plan save on quick meals and breakfast; although used taxi to go to the market to shop, it was highly uncomfortable.

    In short, it make me feel disrespected as I was clearly put aside for providing other client that should have paid a fare higher than me. I am my family are extremely disappointed with RENTALCARS.COM and HERTZ.

    After coming back home, I present a claim to RENTALCARS.COM to reimburse the fees for the car I was not provided along with the unexpected expenses I had to bear due to fail in providing me a car. RENTALCARS.COM said it would discuss with HERTZ and, believe, RENTALCARS.COM is not responding my messages.

    Think before using RENTALCARS.COM and HERTZ because they may not only fail in providing you a car, but also do not reimburse prepaid fees and expenses. I have been stolen and cheated!

    Cheats and liars - do not use

    rentalcars.com should be avoided at all costs. I was unable to find the after hours office for my rental late at night and the phone number for the office was out of order. I came back the next morning only to have the company cancel my rental. Rentalcars.com refused to refund my 158 pounds as they said I had not cancelled before the time I was to pick up the car. I did not cancel - the car company (Express) refused me (no international drivers license - new law in Poland). And I was walking all over the airport at midnight trying to find the office at the time I was supposed to pick it up!

    Repeated emails did not result in any refund or better explanation of why I was charged for a car I could not rent. DO not use this service.

    I am the latest idiot to fall for this scam. They quote a price which essentially almost doubles when fees are added upon picking up the car. I arrive at Dollar to pick-up my car at 2:30 am and was half asleep and too tired to argue. I should have rejected the car right then and there. To add insult to injury the Dollar rep tried to provide a car with 3/4 tank gas when they claimed it was full. All this at the Aguadilla airport in Puerto Rico. Nothing like coming back home after many years and getting screwed by your own people. "Master Card" - priceless.

    RENTALCARS.COM DO NOT HONOR RENTAL COMMITMENTS

    I booked a small pickup car with RENTALCARS.COM for the Carnival period, in Brazil. I did it 3 weeks before the desired dates and soon I received an email confirming the pickup, and the total rental amount was charged on my credit card. Just 3 days before the beginning of the rental I tried to print the booking voucher in the website but, surprisingly, the booking was turned into "awaiting confirmation" status! They deceived me! I paid for a pickup car which they had confirmed but the car was not available, they just gave me another car. This is a huge mistake in the reservations administration process and a radical violation of the consumer rights as the service was already paid and was not avaiable! To cancel the rental would be a disaster for me as there was no more pickup cars avaiable at the time I found out the pothole. Although they gave me another car (not a pickup one), it does not eliminate the severity of the situation, and did not satisfied me indeed. Therefore, I DO NOT RECOMMEND RENTALCARS.COM UNDER NO CONDITION, they do not know how to work, they do not honor the rental commitments and do not provide a standard of quality as it should be offered due to the prepayment they impose on their customers.

    BE WARNED. RENTALCARS.COM is a total rip off. Don’t use this company's website or similar websites, rather go straight to rental car companies itself because I believe these sort of web only companies have several websites. Live in Sydney Australia and booked a car through rentalcars.com but cancelled nearly a month before the booking day but was charged $50. 50 dollar fee is way too much for using a website to book a car. It is dodgy and misleading. The actual car rental companies never charged anything for cancellation. Even now the car company did not charge any cent for the cancellation, only RENTALCARS.COM charged me $50.

    I recently went online to make a booking- it showed the car I chose was available and I entered my c/c details. After this it showed me the car is not available and the site suggested another car, which I was happy with and entered my c/c again. The same thing happened and it showed the car is not available after I entered my c/c no. I then decided to go to a complete different site and made a booking with Avis- there was no problems and I was very happy. Later on I received a message from Rental Cars.com that they did find both the first 2 cars and debited my c/c for both of them. I called in and was upset about this and asked why they had done this. The agent from rental Cars blamed the system saying it wasn't them. To their credit I must say my money was refunded but I would never make a booking with Rental Cars again

    Scam company - Avoid Them!

    Booked a car with all major insurance types (CDW - Liability Insurance and Theft Protection). Surprisingly when I reach Budget office at Trabzon Airport (Turkey), they told me that our records indicate that you don't have any kind of insurance! I show them RentalCars confirmation and they simply told me "We don't care about this paper, we are having an issue with them all the time with our customers".

    I talked to RentalCars but they told me we can't do any action until you finish car rental. I talked to them again and they told me that it's my fault to sign the contract with Budget and these insurances are additional ones (even though i told them the Budget office told me I don't have any from the beginning).

    Ultimately, I found out that this company is playing a pure deception and they will not do anything for you if something wrong happen to you or in case the other party (rental offices) deceived you.

    It's very simple: the CDW that any "third party" sells (including Rentalcars.com) is not part of the provider's contract. (The "provider" is the rental company -- in your case, Budget.) How can it be? Budget didn't sell it to you, and they wouldn't have any knowledge of it.

    That's the nature of "third party" insurance; similar to the coverage your credit card offers when you charge a car rental (at least in the U.S.) -- that's also "third party", and the provider has no knowledge of this coverage. "Third party" insurance will definitely be much, much cheaper than buying direct from the provider, but you'll have more hoops to jump through if you have a claim.

    Budget, naturally, will try to sell you their own CDW. This is how they make money. In fact, since the agent is probably on commission, that's how he pays for this week's groceries. Read "Hard Sell". Since you already have "third party insurance" (in your case, from Rentalcars.com), you simply decline Budget's (inflated) CDW coverage.

    You can hardly blame Rentalcars.com for this mixup. And you certainly can't blame Budget for trying to extort your money with high-pressure sales tactics ("We don't care about your third-party coverage, we're going to use fear and threats to extort more money out of you.")

    You should know what insurance you have, and how it works. You already purchased Rentalcars.com coverage, so simply decline Budget's coverage. But if you have a claim (say, they charge you $1000 for a scratch on the hood), you'll have to "pay" Budget and then file a claim with your "third-party" insurer (in your case, Rentalcars.com). This isn't deceptive, it's not a run-around, it's how things work. That's what "third party" means.

    Avoid rental cars.com!!!

    I used rental cars.com for the first time because I was in the midst of a complicated relocation from the UK to Canada and didn't have time to research car companies individually. Big mistake!! Rentalcars.com charged me nearly three times as much as Avis actually charges for the car in Canada. Rental cars.com is taking advantage of people like me who are moving between countries frequently and don't have time to research the real rates of cars in a given country. Needless to say, I will never use them again, and I hope this warning helps others in similar situations.

    We rented a car with Alamo through RentalCars.com on line. We researched rental car deals before booking so we knew the possible penalties for changing times, pick up/drop off locations, and full tank requirements. Alamo honored our rental agreement and price. They even allowed us to add another driver at a small additional cost ($10 per day) without changing the rest of our contract. We got the size car we were promised. We got the $88 dollar insurance thru rentalcar.com (which saved us a lot of money), but thankfully we did not need to use it so I do not know how easy/difficult that might have been to implement. Overall we were VERY pleased with RentalCars.com and Alamo.
