Extremely disappointed over refusal of promo code

My name is Betty G. Brown and my account # is 896019767. I have been a member of Mystery Guild since 1991-23 years. I have never been discouraged or the least bit dissatisfied with your company until January 31, 2014. I received a notice of a $20.14 promo discount as long as I ordered books during January, with the ending date being January 31. It has always been my understanding that offers such as this are allowed as long as they are posted prior to midnight on the date of expiration(1/31/14). Apparently, this is not true of Mystery Guild and I "had a moment" and asked that my account be closed because of this, as I truly feel this is false advertisement. It wasn't my fault the site was down and I couldn't get my order in time for it to be shipped on January 31. I sent my order through at 8pm January 31, and it refused to allow me to have the discount. I assume this is because the shipping date would have been in February. However, I was, to be honest, astounded and disheartened. I have only had one problem with Mystery Guild through all these years until this. It upset me deeply so I requested my account to be closed. I received an email stating my account was closed. Nothing was said about the situation and no offer to assist me in getting such a discount or any other type of "restitution". I want to go on record saying this is a BAD business situation for a company of your status & I am hurt that no one cared enough to even offer me an alternative to closing my account after all these years. I love mysteries. I think it is sad that I will now have to open a new account and pay for additional books to "complete my contract" with Mystery Guild. Most people would close the account and then reopen it and get the 5 or 6 books and start over-and over-and over. I didn't desire to do that and I feel mistreated at being forced to do so. I am writing this in HOPES that Mystery Guild will think twice in the future before sending out a "routine" email without looking closely at the reason the consumer is asking to close their account-especially those of us who have been extremely loyal in the past, regardless of whether it's been 2 years or 23 years!I will open a new account at some point, but I feel hurt and discouraged about the situation. I really enjoy Mystery Guild, but this doesn't make sense to me.

I would have bought many more books if the featured ones weren't bundled in groups of 3. Also, the US Postal Service ships cheaper than you.

Amendment to precious post re: disappointed over promo code

I just sent in a review stating discouragement of denial of a promo code. It is exceptionally long because I felt it needed to be explained. However, I want to go on record that this is definitely unlike Mystery Guild and up until that night (1/31/14)I have never had a problem with Mystery Guild. Customer service has been good and the quality and quantity of the books are tremendous! I just feel someone needs to look at the rules regarding promo codes. If it is expiring at 8PM, etc., please state so. I honestly thought I was getting in on the promo in time because it was 8pm on 1/31/14 and the expiration date was 1/31/14. To my understanding, that left me 4 hours to order. Apparently I was wrong.

Overall, I love this company and will probably rejoin at another time. I just don't think it's right to have to sign another agreement after I have been ordering books for 23 years. It just doesn't seem right. I truly believed Customer Service would read my email and consult with me about an alternative to closing my account. Instead, they just closed my account and forgot it. That's not good business-sorry.

Bought:
The promo code CASHIN14 was not allowed because I wasn't able to get on to the page and place order until 8 pm January 31,2014. Mystery Guild would not accept the promo code even though I was ordering on 1/31/14
Pros:
  • Pros: I Love Mystery Guild and have been member for 23 years!Never a problem until this.I rely on Mystery Guild to let me know when my favorite authors/books are available


  • Cons-strictly the promo code CASHIN4 through Jan 31
  • 2014. It would not give me the credit because it was ordered at 8pm on 1/31/14. As long as an order is placed prior to midnight of the expiration date it should have accepted my order. For this reason
  • I asked them to close my account. I honestly thought someone would call me first and try to help me out. I have been a member for 23 years. They just ignored the content of why I asked to close my account; instead
  • they just closed it. I will open another one day but I feel this is bad business and it upsets me deeply.

    When I first joined I was paying about $12 a book. After I fulfilled my purchase agreement, I was thrilled to pick and choose. With the "buy 2 get 3rd for $1.99" and the "$2.49 s&h" I now pay an avg of $7 for a hardcover book! I have had to return featured selections twice because I forgot to check it off. After the 2nd selection they called me because they had not received payment. I told the cs rep that I had mailed it back over a month ago. The rep removed the charge from my acct right away and was really nice about it!

    I am very disappointed with your book club. I have purchased 7 books and I still get notices to buy more. Also you claim I still need 1 more book to fulfill my commitment. I can no longer participate in your scheme because I have no job.
