needs to be repetitive

For those complaining that the games are too repetitive, they need to join a site like Pogo or actual gaming sites. The brain needs to train with repetition, like drill techniques, in order to become an automated task. Neuro paths are not developed with diversity in the beginning. It is hard to determine how much repetition is needed in order to develop new neuro paths in the brain, each brain is different. Neuroscientists are involved in developing these "games" so they have the experience and knowledge of how neurons work. Join Pogo if all you want is fun and diversity. I want proven methods from neuroscience.

I noticed on the memory matrix that as I began to tire I made more mistakes. The program would dock me only one level. If I missed that, it would dock me another, and so on. As I recouped and improved I would regain levels. I only made it up to 9, I think, on my first round of tries, which I'm satisfied with at the moment, showing improvement each time, so I can't complain. I am concerned about the billing issues I've read about here but that's another matter. I've been ADD all my life. Four years ago, I had a pretty serious head injury that went basically untreated because I had no insurance. Then, as if that wasn't enough we believe that that head injury triggered the Multiple Sclerosis which had lain dormant or disguised for half my life. Basically, all this means is that my future is pretty much screwed. To fight the fog that has been slowly dulling my brain function, memory and thought processes, I downloaded a free 22 hr audio psychology book from audible as a free trial, bought an "painless" algebra book for about $10, and plan to download another 13 hr audio book to study mandarin chinese for about $14. According to AARP, the more challenges you give your brain, the less shrinkage will occur as you age and has even been known to fend off advanced Alzheimers for many years. I think Lumosity is probably worth a few dollars a month given the upside.

One star for lack of customer support. I sent several e-mails regrading questions on my account, but have received no response, although they say they will respond within 24 hours.

I give the product a 4 star.

To bad they don't seem to care about their customers.

Though I didn't get to use it as much as I would have liked, Lumosity really does improve brain function. I have a somewhat stressful life, and I found that when I was playing the games every day, my thought processes were quicker for one thing.

I also went through chemotherapy last year, and when I started playing the games again, it helped my memory and such which had been slowed a little due to anemia and such.

Especially if you can do it every day, Lumosity is a great value, a good gift... even if it is to yourself.

Very astute observation re: luminosity and chemo. Hope that your chemo was as successful as you found this program. Thanks for taking the time to review, peace!

I am happy with the product, but not with the customer servicesa. For a couple of weeks now I have been endeavouring to get a response to this situation: I bought my son a 2-year membership, to be activated in January when his current 1-year membership expires. Shortly after, when I renewed my own membership, I saw various offers - 50% off a 2-year gift membership, and a lifetime membership offer. Since I had already bought the initial gift at the regular price, I asked Lumosity to cancel it, so that I could purchase either the lifetime membership, or the 2-year at the special price (I was inclining towards the former). To date I've had no reply to that specific request. I sent a final note this morning. If I receive no response, I may just cancel all the memberships.

I'm very disappointed, since at the outset they were very responsive. I wonder if they have no time, now that they've got 10milllion subscribers? I am also thinking of sending a complaint to the BBB.

I do feel your pain, we have all seen some big ticket item we just paid full price for go on sale a week later, but most of us won't get to travel back in time to undo our own folly.

Still, a business cannot justify incurring the additional expenses involved in processing & recording a subscription cancellation & refund, only to generate a new subscription, discount it, process another financial transaction with it's resulting fees, while spending ever more time, data, & resources for the sole purpose of handing back to you a few dollars you've already spent.

And while I absolutely agree that it is a service providers duty to reply to their customers in a prompt and courteous fashion, I can't say I'm surprised that your request has been ignored.
Perhaps they just can't think of anything nice to say.

I am really disappointed with the way Luminosity handles payment. People really need to be aware that they ask for credit card payment because you automatically become a subscriber and that isn't spelt out at all. I took out a one month membership and then eventually discovered that this amount would be automatically deducted from my credit card every month. Before I looked into it all very very closely and realised this, I had noticed that on the 'give it as a gift' option, people had a PayPal option. I thought I would upgrade to one year, since they would deduct the money I already paid, and I would pay through PayPal, as I had ready money there. I selected the one year option and they just automatically took it off my credit cart.. no middle step.. just one click and no options. I wrote saying I was very disappointed, explaining what had happened but there has been absolutely no response.

Be VERY careful about payment with this lot.

computer applications and courses

Even though they will be receiving a grant to provide newer and "new" programs and courses - the courses are very repetitive - the entire system to me needs to be updated for our society now. It needs to reach all ages true. Yet applications are hard to see even with magnification yet you have these applications to help improve vision. When new apps or games come out they are the same thing as before just with a different name there has been no new concepts. Please get rid of Koi - programs not utilized and feedback from customers should propel the company and program in the direction it should go. the post traumatic and brain injury program really stinks. It is repetitive it needs to be more diverse. Luminosity has really helped me yet it is very expensive they need to inform their customers of coupon codes in today's economy I believe the price truly needs to be reviewed - when a problem occurs with an application sometimes the answer are worth the input sometimes it is just like they blow you off. Listen to your customers lets see new up to date programs.

I really enjoy the brain games, I think its very accessible and the games are easy to learn. I have fun playing them and feel good because I'm helping my brain perform better. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because the PTSD games are the same as the regular games. I thought there would be more of a variety.

Have been using the site for about a week now. The games present good challenges out do your previous score.

But, it takes some time to continue to unlock easy levels to actually get to a level that is challenging or at your current potential. I think it may be better to have a test level to get an idea of where your potential is currently. (Unless of course there is some benefit of going through all the easy levels.)

Also, many of the games make you start over at the lowest level and continue to add difficulty until you reach a failure point, and then the total points are totaled for that trial. This can get repetitive at times, but I can understand there may be a reason for starting low and having to work up through the levels each time. But, does this approach actually help, or would it be just as beneficial to start at the last level successfully completed?

expensive

A little costly since I have a similar app on my android for free but if you want to purchase it use promo code kindlife25 for 25% off (excludes monthly). Worked as of this posting date.

Pros:
  • Effective
  • Cons:
  • Expensive

Great cognitive perceptual training/retraining. The games are spot on for developing memory, attention, focus and other abilities that can be taken for granted and contributed to 'normal again. Awesome, fun brain exercise.

I just started this program - I actually went to purchase it for my 10-year-old daughter who has just been diagnosed with ADHD, but as I have ADD I wanted to try it out as well. I am only giving it a 4 at this point simply because I have only used it for two days so there may be glitches or frustrations I have not yet encountered. That being said, however, I would highly recommend Lumosity!

Decided not to buy based on complaints here about lack of customer service and repetitiveness of exercises. I have done 2 of the free days. Thanks for the input, all....

  • Neat stuff

  • Apparent customer service issues
