I've bought a few things from groupon and have never had any problems with groupon itself. Some of the companies are misleading e.g I was looking forward to a teeth whitening appointment with Essentials beauty clinic in Cardiff which the advert said would make them hollywood white only to be told when I got there that my teeth were too white to whiten and my teeth are very far from white so their claim to Hollywood whiten teeth is very misleading just clean them up a bit. In my opinion it's not groupon just the companies that use them . Check out their website first.I did have a problem with pearlys who were oversubscribed due to the groupon ad and got fed up of phoning in the end, but groupon did give me back the money after I sent them an e-mail. But I thought Esssentials claim to hollywood whiten teeth was very misleading.

Pros:
  • some good deals
  • Cons:
  • misleading companies

I have had a problem with Groupon changing the expiry date from 3 months to just 1 month after I purchased. They stated that this was just human error in the advert but that the voucher did expire in only one month. The problem with this 'human error' is that it happens very often and is very profitable for Groupon.

How? Groupon keeps 100% of the money from unredeemed vouchers. So if someone thinks the voucher expires in June, but it actually expires in April and they don't use it, Groupon keep 100%. For their mistakes!

Groupon has also been targeting businesses who are about to go bankrupt. They sell the vouchers, and the company goes out of business shortly thereafter. Customers do NOT get a refund, the business only gte paid for the few vouchers that they could redeem, so who keeps all the money? Groupon! It is very profitable for them to deal with businesses that are going under. And the only one profiting off this whole mess is Groupon!

    100% scam!

I have two problems with 'Groupon' the coupon co. I sent for 4 coupons for myself and my 3 daughters for a deal that included 5 luxury treatments body exfoliation, a foot massage, a hot stone back massage, crushed pearl facial and an Indian head massage. The deal was advertised as being at the 'SenS Hair and Beauty in the Park Lane Hilton'. No time was given as to how long the treatments would take in the advertised deal but I have been to Champneys and experienced how long similar treatments usually take.

Each coupon was valued at £160 and cost £39. Champneys also advertise a day with 4 treatments (including lunch) for £159 which I thought should be comparable as the value of the deal was £160 if genuine.

We tried to book on line as the salon suggested. They charge £3.50 if you wish to telephone them.

Only then did we discovere that all 5 treatments take a maximum total time of 75 mins. With allows no time to fit in 5 treatments, no time to move places or therapists, but - more important - no time for the therapists to rest or confer with their customers. Also you can only book for 3 people and we were 4.

However, no matter how many times we tried to book in advance using their online booking system they were always fully booked. I have emailed them 7 times. I had a reply to my second email apologising and telling me that they were fully booked until late April/early May. They also said they only have 3 therapists and 4 people would have to be booked 2 then 2 after, but offering no solution or bookings times for me. So I emailed to ask for bookings on 14th May. They emailed me a week later to say they were fully booked for May 14th.

Next I emailed them to ask for any Saturday or Sunday that they could offer me 4 appointments. I have emailed them 7 times and have not received any booking, reply, or even acknowledgement.

Yesterday I look up reviews for this salon and found out that they are giving an awful lot of people trouble, no appointment/ last minute cancellations for no stated reason - even people who had telephoned several times at a cost of £3.50 each time. Some people had been waiting for 5 months. Even people that had actually had a treatment had not been well treated.

I think that it may be best to ask for a refund but I don't have any confidence that I would receive one.

    2.

I bought another 'Groupon ' coupon on 15th February. I wasn't sure about the treatment but there is a time limit on offers and I needed to act quickly. I thought this would be okay as you have 7 days to cancel and get a refund. So I bought the coupon costing £199 and then, later that day, I was able to look into the treatment in the offer. I realised that it was not suitable for me and sent 2 emails (there were 2 different email addresses) to cancel and request a refund. The next day I sent another email with a little more information and also a request for confirmation that they had received my emails. Many companies send out confirmations, reasuring you that your request is being attended to. As there is a 7 day time limit I wanted to make sure that I had fulfilled my side of the obligations.

So far I have heard nothing from 'Groupon' and the £199 has not been credited to my credit card.

Don't mean to be rude but how the hell can you compare champany to a groupon voucher? You pay hundreds for champany and spend £20 or somthing pound for a groupon voucher and expect the same quality!!! come on wake up. You pay for what you get and can't expect the same standards as if you were paying hundreds the poor company would be out of business.

I paid £42 for a hair appointment which was promptly taken from my account. The next day i called the salon to be told they knew nothing of the deal and were not offering one. I have emailed and called Groupon a number of times but cannot get through on the phone and they have not replied to my email.

They still have my £42. I do not have a hair appointment. This is terrible and worrying.

Wow! Wish I'd read these reviews before buying from these crooks. My wife and daughter each recently bought a 5 course Indian meal for two at a new top notch Cardiff restaurant, which was supposed to be woth £50, for £19.50. We turned up and were told that there was no menu available but we could enjoy a serve yourself (2star at best) buffet available to non Groupon customers for a mere £7.95 a head. Tried in vain to contact Groupon to complain and wil NEVER again go anywhere near this bunch of rip off merchants.

I recently bought a deal with a boudoir photoshoot, after buying this at £39.00 groupon emailed to say there was a mistake and the offer had changed and now now longer included the makeover and 90 mins. It was 60 mins and the makeup was £50.00.

After many emails and calls they said there was a human mistake and there was nothing further they could do bar giving me my money back.

I believe they have a right to stick to the original offer as they made the mistake.

I thought this was a great site until i was stung by paying £70 for a spa deal. The spa didn't honor their deal. Tried calling Groupon only to find out they are restructuring their customer services and nobody can take the calls. Tried several times since. I'm now at the stage where I'm taking the company to a small claims court. Groupon is just a flashy way to hide rogue traders.

I now have two ongoing complaints with Groupon

    1) Purchase of a McClean and Go Voucher.

I bought this voucher for this service which is supposed to include "A Deep Clean home overhaul lasting up to 2 hours including two bedrooms, kitchen, toilet, etc. with McClean and Go" on the 8th Nov

I paid £29.00 for this service. I tried to contact McClean and Go for approx 3 weeks on the phone and via email. No one ever answered the phone. I tried to contact Groupon on the phone continously for a week which no luck, the phone system kept saying that "an operator was not avaiable and to try again later". I wrote them email on the 19/11 which no had reponse and then again on the 22/11. I recieved a response on the 26/11 advising me that they have contacted McClean and Go and they would be contacting me, which of course they did not. I then contacted Groupon again by email on the 8th Dec and then Groupon agreed to give me £29.00 refund onto my Groupon account. I have yet to see the refund, and I have been continously chasing them.

    2) Purchase of a Laser Lipo Ltd Voucher

I bought this voucher for this serviceon the 22nd October 2010 and it was supposed to include "Three sessions of the non invasive Revolutionary Strawberry Laser Lipo and 20% off any further laser lipo treatments"

I paid £112 for this service. I contacted my local salon and booked in for Decemeber as this was the earliest date availaible. On the day before my treatment the Salon called to cancel my appointment saying that the therapist has incorrectly booked me in for December saying that the offer was not valid as it was a busy period. They rebooked me in for January. The day before my appoinment again the salon called me saying they were no longer offering this service as Groupon had not paid them!! I explained this was not my problem but they said I need to contact Groupon for a refund. Trying to call Groupon again, it says that its phonelines are down and to email.

I am extremley fustrated with the whole situation and have contacted my bank to see if they can do anything, but until Groupon agree to a refund they can't do anything. I have also spoken to Trading Standards (Consumer Direct) who have confirmed they are in breach of contract and told me to write to Groupon again in a specific format which I have done and am awaiting a response. I WILL GET MY MONEY BACK!!!

Hi guys, I have similar experiences with Groupon. Companies that never answer their phones, companies that went out of business, companies that changed management in the meantime or those who, after hundreds of phone calls, could not accommodate me because they were fully booked for the rest of the year! No...I havenít bought a million vouchers...2 I got as present and 3 I bought myself....and all the above happened to me... is it a coincidence?

If you do have a bad experience with Groupon please call the CONSUMER DIRECT (part of office of fair trading) on 08454040506. They need a significant amount of complaints in order to take action. If the company you bought the coupons for went out of business please confirm that by calling the INSOLVENCY SERVICE on 08456029848. You need to confirm first with them and then call the consumers direct service.

If I could give 0 stars I would.

I havent been able to redeem my voucher for a hair appointment at the Ginger Group. Seems like the Ginger group were unable to handle the amount of customers they gained through the promotion, and its impossible to make an appointment.

Groupon are now failing to answer emails regarding my request for a refund. All 8 phone numbers I have for them are never answered (or I'm directed to LONG recorded messages on premium rate numbers which are entirely unhelpful and irritating). I've emailed Trading Standards (consumer direct) - just waiting for a response, then I can hopefully wash Groupon out of my hair for ever!!

    Groupon is dreadful

My first Groupon purchase was ok, if a little hard to actually book the activity due it being oversubscribed. My friends and I are now booked on to a cup cake decorating afternoon, fingers crossed it will go as plan.

My second purchase is driving me up the wall with frustration. In April I purchased a voucher for laser teeth whitening with Pearlys and the advert stated it was to be redeemed at their Warwick location. As this is very close to where I live it was perfect.

I received the voucher, went online to book (as instructed) only to find the company didn't.

    Groupon - the rip off!

We also have been ripped off by Groupon. we purchased some bedding which never arrived although they took our money. we contacted trading standards who have been trying to contact group but have so far been unsuccessful.

DO NOT BUY FROM GROUPON - sooner or later you will likely be ripped off too and when you are, they wont want to know.

    Pros:
  • If you're wanting to lose a lot of money fast
  • Groupon can help
  • Cons:
  • If you dont like being scammed
  • Groupon is not for you
