MISERABLE purchasing experience

Like many other posters I have ordered from this company over the years without negative experience. I recently ordered 3 large "pet dens" under the guise of their "free shipping for orders over $49" which turns out not to be the case as the crates cost an extra $8 each for ground shipping (if you check out competitors this is NOT the case). Nevertheless Foster and Smith have a unique crate that I have really been pleased with over the years. So I paid more than what I would have for a similar product. When the order arrived, of the 3 crates, one was functional. The other 2 had been shipped from the manufacturer with the wrong sized door (smaller) and one of the crates was damaged (large crack through the plastic where the door would open and close if one had a door). I called customer service and they were extremely pleasant and were going to have new doors and a replacement crate sent out as "urgent". They were going to call or email me with an ETA of the new shipment. Long story short - 5 phone calls over 7 days going over the situation each time from the start, finally resulted in someone contacting the manufacturer. The manufacturer's solution was to send new items that will arrive in 10-14 days. This does not fit with "urgent". The customer service people maintain there is "nothing they can do". When I politely explained that I am going to have to go purchase crates locally TODAY bc my puppies are busting out of their small ones, and that I was going to return the entire order for a refund I was told that I cannot initiate a return until the new parts come from the manufacturer or I will have to pay for the parts, their shipping to me, plus return shipping on everything AND that once they "approve" a return and send me a label - it will take weeks for the items to be shipped back to them, and once they receive the returned items - THREE weeks to process my refund. Another 100% satisfaction, money back guarantee, previously decent company down the tubes. Beware. Foster and Smith are not different than the "big box" companies anymore - except that they are unable to solve problems. 55448

    We usually have a positive experience with this company but the last two years have been frustrating. We bought orthopedic beds four years ago for our greyhounds, and they were great and lasted a very long time. We replaced them in the last two years and they were falling apart inside of six months. The company stopped selling them, most likely due to complaints about the product. My complaint about them was never posted on their web site. In the last two weeks I ordered bolster beds instead, and upon arrival, they were smaller than ordered, so they shipped me more beds. The new beds are again the wrong size. As it turns out, the manufacturer is not telling the whole truth about them, and the sizes are much smaller than advertised. Dr Foster and Smith has changed the web site to accomodate the new sizes, but they are still smaller than advertised. My advice would be to not order the chocolate bolster beds. While it took me going to a supervisor to get labels immediately to send back the beds, they have been prompt with trying to get to the bottom of the problem. My rating is based on quality of merchandise only.

    Question:

    I have a pond with plants, koi's and goldfish.

    And my question is, can I still add bacteria and run a uv clearifier at the same time. And do I need to hold off on the uv clearifier for a while after the bacteria treatment.

    Shipping is timely, additional charges on salt shipping compared to no additional charges at Pet Solutions. Because of this charge I am forced to purchase items from them to get my salt which I use a great deal of for water changes to my 160 gal marine aquarium. I find your company more informative but am unable to order becauseof the excessive charges on some items.

    poor shipping methods

    Customer service has not anxwered my emails to them. They ask at checkout if you get USPS delivery at the address. However, they ship via FedEx Postal which was shut down at time of order and in any event takes 2-3 times longer than USPS. There was no warning about shipping being shutdown - just a reference to same day shipping. My package would have fit in a small USPS priority flat rate box which would have shipped by air for less than the hidden mixed up method.

    Pros:
  • A couple of dollars cheaper
  • Cons:
  • I. Misleading Shipping Information
    (1) How long held in house for processing
    (2) "Does USPS deliver to your address"
  • indicates they ship USPS which is NOT even a paid option.
    (3) No warning that their shipping method is shut down when you place your order.
    II. No response from Customer Service.

    I've been dealing with this company for years for my dogs and saltwater fish. I have always been pleased with their selection and service, and usually their prices. Highly recommended.
