Discover Card BestBuy.com, Staples.com No Cashback

Last month I used my Discover Card to make purchases through ShopDiscover at BestBuy.com (10% cashback, normally 5%) and Staples.com and even Walgreens.com (10% cashback, regularly 5%). As of today, I still have not seen any cashback. I'm wondering if anyone out there has the same ShopDiscover cash back problem. My Groupon purchases had no problem getting cashback via Shopdiscover- in fact within a day or two I will get an email confirmation of the cashback. But Bestbuy.com, Staples.com, & Walgreens.com- it's another story. Especially Best Buy since I bought over $1000 of items from there last month. I contacted Discover, and they sent me this:

"Thank you for your recent message regarding a purchase you made through ShopDiscover. I understand your concern about receiving this Cashback Bonus, and I will be happy to assist you today.

When making a ShopDiscover purchase, you will usually receive an e-mail confirmation from us within fifteen days of making that purchase.

If it has been fifteen days and you have not received your confirmation e-mail, please fax me a copy of your invoice to (623) 643-7201 or email it to phxceg@discover.com, so that your inquiry can be investigated with the merchant. Please include your name and account number.

This Cashback Bonus is separate from your annual Cashback Bonus calculation and is credited to your Discover Card account on your billing date. This is usually within eight weeks (two billing cycles) of the purchase date. Keep in mind that in order for an account to cycle, there must be current activity.

So on December 12, I went ahead and emailed them all my order confirmation/invoice (what a pain!). Still, as of today, no cashback, no response. I even contacted them again yesterday, but no word. I did not use any coupons, etc., that would invalidate the terms of the cashback. I'm not sure if I would use ShopDiscover (or even my Discover Card) again - it's just too much hassle to even see if there is a chance to get their advertised cashback.

Cons:
  • cash back issue- still have not gotten cashback after over a month
  • hassle had to submit order confirmation

    Fed up

    I have been a Discover customer for almost 3 years and now I finally cancelled my card, fed up with them not delivering on what they promised when it comes to cashback bonuses. A number of times I only received partial cashback bonus and when I call or e-mail, they tell me I will get it later. What is the point of giving me 1% and the other 4% later, usually in about 3-4 months?? Very starnge. Oh, and I only get my cashback bonus after contacting them and arguing.

    Also recently they had a promotional 5% for ALL online purchases and I called to confirm that the retailer I was about to use qualifies. they said yes and i went ahead with the purchase. Well, I only got 1 or 2% back and they told me my purchase did not qualify, but after arguing back and forth they did give me full 5% although it took over a month.

    My CapitalOne card brings me more cashback even though it is only 1%. Also it does give me bonus as soon as my purchases goes through. I guess i will be using that one more from now on.

  • Cashback bonus
  • No annual fee
  • Cons:
  • Not receiving cashback bonus
  • Receiving incomplete cashback bonus
  • Receiving cashback bonus 3-4 months later

    I have two Discover Cards (one for personal use and one for business). I like their Cashback program- I think it's the best of any other cards I have. The 5% categories rotate every 3 months (with the exception of business cards which stays fixed at 5% for office supplies). Plus their ShopDiscover feature will give you more cash back start at 5% all the way to 20%. It's definitely a good card to have esp. if you can get it with 0% APR.

    We just make good use of the Discover Card 5% cash back offer for cruises. The caveat is that Discover only allows you the 5% back on up to $800, but since we each had our own card, we put $800 on each for the cruise fare to get $80 back total. Hope this helps anyone out there!
