I was told when I switched to Credo from AT&T that Credo would pay a contract buyout up to $200 per line transferred. I was told by the Sales Representative that my bill would be $79 per month, which was much cheaper than AT&T. I proceeded to transfer my wife's and my number.

My first bill came and it was high due to connection fees, which I had expected. I submitted my final bill from ATT to Credo for the contract buyout credit on 10/01/10.

My second bill came and my bill was still over $100 and so was the case the next month. I then realized I had been deceived by the company and wanted out of my contract. Since I did not know I would be paying way more than promised per month until after the 90 day period, I requested that my early termination fees be waived and that they proceed with the processing of my contract buyout credit. I was told no final bill from ATT was never received.

Credo asked me to resubmit my final bill from ATT. Credo said that they would submit the request to corporate for my early termination fee waiver, and call me back in 48 hours to follow up. We agreed to wait until we received the call back from Credo to cancel our account. No call was ever received from Credo. We submitted our final bill from AT&T a second time to Credo on 10-08-2010 via fax (415-371-1048) and email (contractbuyout@credomobile.com). After waiting two weeks I called Credo to cancel my account and was told that they showed no record of the request for contract buyout or early termination fee waiver, but said that they would submit the request for both and call me back in 48 hours to follow up.

I received a final bill from Credo totaling over $400 that did not show a credit for early termination fees or a contract buyout, so I called to inquire the last week of November. I was told that I did not qualify for an early termination fee waiver and I was also told that my contract buyout request and final ATT bill was never received. I submitted the request again this time via certified mail to: c-works 625 willow springs lane york, PA. 17406. I received the green confirmation of receipt card a few days later that verified Credo received the final bill from ATT on 12/08/2010.

I waited until the 13 of December and called back. I was told by a customer service representative that since I was no longer a customer I did not qualify for the credit of my ATT cancelation fees. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was connected with "Rayleene". She told me that she would submit my request to corporate and that it would more than likely be approved and that I would see the credit applied by 01/03/2011. She also said she would call me back in 2-3 days to follow up. She never called back and is now unreachable.

I called Credo today 01/10/2011 at 2:46pm CST I spoke with a supervisor and was told that the credit request had not yet been reviewed and told that she would submit the request to corporate. I then asked for the direct number to corporate and was given the number to a customer liaison named Yvonne 1-888-507-3247. I left a message and am waiting for a call back.

I just signed up for three phones and emailed in the contract buyout portion of my verizon bill and got the credit immediately. My bill is the cost I had expected and the credit adds up to about 3 months of free service.

Maybe things have gotten much better.

Cust. Dropping Credo

I agree. They are completely incompetent. Service reps are extremely friendly, but all talk and no walk. I like the idea of supporting progressive causes, but hands down, Credo is the worst cell service I ever had. I will steer anyone away from them. *Service got crummy just after my 30 day trial* Now I'll have to fight them to keep my buy-out fee.

Everybody should have their friends bring their phones over to test it in a new place BEFORE committing to a network you're COMPLETELY unfamilar with. Credo uses the Sprint metwork, which is pretty small versus the competition. Sprint service is FANTASTIC in my midtown location, but very weak at my girlfriend's house. Consider learning how to be an informed mobile phone consumer, instead of blaming Credo for your lack of knowledge!
I agree! Credo is the worst. They are JUST like all of the rest.

I like the idea that Credo supports progressive causes. However, the company must be competent, which I no longer beleive Credo is.

  1. I'm on my third phone with them. it, like the other two is a lemon.

  2. Two weeks ago, while taliking to customer service, I was either disconnected or they hung up. The dialogue was not that difficult.

  3. Today, trying to work through a problem, the rep said she would call me back shortly. Whne I asked what shortly meant, I was told within 15 minutes. That was six hours ago.

I will tell everyone NOT to use Credo as they are incompetent.

great service, great quality

Credo's customer service is great. The cell phone service is great. I do pest control and I am constantly going through different counties/cities. The only time I ever have trouble is in the north georgia mountains, then reception goes in & out. My only complaint is since I'm not willing to pay for a smart phone, I use non smart phones and Credo's selection ain't that great. I don't think they have one that even does video, low quality cameras, no games etc.. This almost caused me to make a 4 star review but wtf...it's cell phone service and quality I need, not a video recorder! I was with AT&T which f****d up the good thing Cingular had going. Credo bought me out of my contract and kept my #.

I've used CREDO/Working Assets for more than 10 years now, but it really has not done a very good job of keeping up with the times or providing even basic customer service. When my bill was really high one month--triggered by a long string of unidentified incoming calls--I had to request a breakdown of those calls three times, and I never got it. The last customer service rep I spoke to did not even try to be friendly. He seemed put upon that he even had to answer the phone. In the end, I decided I'd had enough. I can't recommend them.

Was the service bad for all those 10 years?
I had a similar problem w/Virgin Mobile, Sprint and droppet them after 5 months, 5 phones and 3 batteries. Not too impressed w/the LG Optimus Elite phone, either.

The biggest phone disaster I have ever encountered. I switched to CREDO - my phone went down after about 12 hours. I kept calling and getting people who would tell me to reset the phone - I finally got a hold of someone who said they would look into it. The next day I called and was told they were working on it. I do not have a land line - I use this phone for my personal use and business back up. After 3 more days of being told it would be fixed by the end of the day someone finally said, we are giving it the highest attention - but it will be another 3-5 days before we can have this fixed. (This has now been 5 days without a phone already)

I then said I will have to switch to another company - I need a working phone AND I NEED TO PORT MY NUMBER BACK --- NO PROBLEM!!!!

I switched back to T-mobile who at least gave me a temporary number and working phone to use until my number could be ported over - THAT WAS TWO DAYS AGO. I called this morning - they put me through to CREDO who said they no longer had my number and it would now take at least 72hours before they can get it back!!!! I asked why this happened and once again NO ONE seems to have a clue!!!!

CREDO is a good idea but they haven't a clue as to what they are doing. I have never dealt with such ineptitude.

For years I raved about Working Assets and Credo and now all I can say is stay away, terrible customer service and policies. They offered me a new phone so I took it, it did not work, they sent me another it did not work, they sent me a third, all the same phone with the same problem it did not work, then when I said let me get a different phone, no you can't because you already had 2 this year, this of course was true I had them for a day and the wasted time having to mail them back, so I am still using the tired old phone I got two years ago when they still had phones that worked and good customer service. Stay Away.

Credo's been great for me

I switched to Credo from Verizon as soon as I became aware of their existence. (About 2 years ago) I love what they stand for and contribute to, and have been very satisfied with my Blackberry as well as Credo's customer service. I have only had to contact them with basic questions. No problems from this customer~ just a happy customer who can be proud of the phone company I send my money to.

Pros:
  • I love my phone
  • I'm proud of supporting a company who contributes to causes that I believe in.
  • Cons:
  • No local store fronts

I have been a Credo customer for roughly two years. They were able to extract me from a miserable situation with AT&T. They gave me a contract buyout, the exact phone I wanted, and a great plan. I now have a Blackberry smart phone, and again reasonable rates, and excellent service. Their customer service is also far better then any cell provider I have ever encountered. Only shortcomings are they do not offer a store so all business has to be done over the phone or online, and they do not offer the cutting edge phones that sprint offers as they re sell Sprint service. I would strongly recommend them though.

    Nice idea, poorly run company

Nice idea, poorly run company. Left T-Mobile because they were so awful to deal with, but My life with Credo is misery upon frustration. My experience mirrors most of the negative reviews here:

-All Credo phones are actually Sprint phones, and they are loaded with Sprint apps, games, and useless apps that you cannot uninstall. I get Sprint spam messages regularly and credo has no opt-out policy for these, you just get them.

-Friendly but totally useless tech support - these are NOT TECHNICIANS, they are customer support reps with no cell tech experience, all they ever do is tell me to reset the phone

-Horrible reception in all areas, all the time

-Constant "roaming" even at home (I live 0.2 miles from the Sprint tower)

A very poorly run business. At least the big providers can usually fix problems, Credo is utterly useless if you have any kind of issues.

    Pros:
  • Nice social philosophy
  • Cons:
  • Crappy tech support
  • Crappy customer service
  • Crappy reception

The crappy reception, like the phones, is due to Sprint. Credo is a reseller of Sprint service, and it is up to Sprint to fix reception problems (if they feel like it).

Customer service is spotty. My Moto Qc went buggy so I called customer service. My patience was tested when I spoke to a clueless operator who had no particular knowledge about the MotoQ's basic function. She insisted that I reset my phone but she couldn't even navigate me through that process which I eventually had to show her how to do. I insisted that it was hardware and that I need to exchange the phone. Upon realizing I was right she told me that she would direct me to a more qualified tech and that i'd get a call back in 20min. Well I waited and waited until the next day in which I ended up having to call Credo customer service. Just an absolute waste of time. One of my biggest gripes about Credo is their lack of cell phone choice, most of the models they offer are older and they finally JUST got a touch screen model.

Highly Deceptive Voice & Data Service Advertising

I live in NYC and switched to Credo Mobile 6 months ago and got a new Samsung Galaxy S4. Great phone. Specifically I live in Queens in a clearly advertised Credo (Sprint) 4GLTE service area with 3G on my way to work on Long Island. I am shocked at the average coverage quality: 1MBps download speed. I get good 4GLTE about 5% of the time. Most of the time google maps doesn't work or I can't open a browser. I have persistent call problems and when I contact customer support: A miracle! Sprint was having problems right when I was. Credo is a scam. I've traveled to DC, Fort Lauderdale, Boston and Cleveland and had identical problems. None of my friends on ATT, Verizon or Tmobile have these problems. I just want out. The phone is awesome on WIFI - but Credo has nothing to do with that.

    Bought:
Samsung Galasy S4 on 4GLTE and 3G Service
    Order Date:
    2013-10-09
    Date Received:
    2013-10-11

    Pros:
  • The answer the phone and are very nice. Most carriers don't even let you get to a live person - Credo is really good about that.
  • Cons:
  • Cellular service is the worst of the major carriers and it is very evident; market comparisons all indicate the same thing. Sprint is back of the pack.

    Shocked By The Negative Reviews!

I am blown away by how negative so many of these reviews are. My family has been with CREDO (when they were Working Assets) since as long as I can remember. Chalk that up to a mom who wanted to support progressive causes when she could.

I just switched over to CREDO from T-Mobile and I was worried about the tech support and customer service aspects. I have never had tech support issues before, but I did have billing issues with T-Mobile. Multiple times. Each time they were quick, responsive, and resolved the issue excellently!

Last night I had my first billing issue with CREDO. And we're not talking like "Oh, I think you charged me 1.35 extra on the mandatory federal, state, and local fees line." We're talking "Oh. I see you shut off my service and think I owe you almost $1000 for my phone service. Doubtful."

So, since they don't have a 24-hour customer service line (they should change that!), I sent them an e-mail last night around 11PM. I awoke this morning thinking "Oh man. I wonder if CREDO e-mailed me back. I wonder if they're going to fix this for me. They'd better top T-Mobile's customer service." And they did! Actually, they exceeded it.

Apparently I forgot to sign up for unlimited texting, and while I am an adult male, I actually text more per month than most teenage girls, so it's inconceivable to me that I would sign up for a plan where I would pay .20 per text, since that would run me bankrupt in a matter of months.

CREDO backdated my plan for unlimited texting, removed all the texting charges, and restored my phone service (all while I was asleep!) even though my bill still shows a whopping four-digit number.

Honestly, I'm shocked at all the bad customer service comments. I could never have had this resolved over e-mail (again, while I slept!) with T-Mobile. All those decisions require you to call in, play phone tree tag, and talk to a representative (who, to be fair, were always amazing in my experience). But, I'm an e-mailer and a texter and knowing I can talk to my phone service provider over e-mail is great!

And let's be honest, who doesn't love supporting the causes they support?

    A+

    Pros:
  • Great Customer Service
  • Great Prices
  • Great Phone Selection
  • Great Coverage
  • Cons:
  • No 24-Hour Customer Service Line

    Very Impressed with Customer Service

I am completely thrown by the negative reviews posted here as this has not been my experience with Credo. My husband and I are saving approximately $60 a month using Credo (1400 Mins plan); the customer service has been OUTSTANDING! They have promptly and professionally responded to every question I've submitted via email. The credit for my husband's contract buyout was processed in a timely manner. The coverage is perfectly fine - in fact, I might be imagining this but it seems like I have even better 4G coverage using the Samsung Conquer on Credo than I did using the HTC Evo Shift while a Sprint customer. I appreciate the 'a la cart' pricing menu, since it means I'm only paying for what I want. I had an employee family plan phone with Sprint before converting to Credo and I expected all sorts of problems trying to port over my existing number but there were no issues.

I need a cell phone. We don't have landlines or VoiP in our home, so the cell phone is it for us. Since I have to pay for this service - it is a wonderful sense of empowerment for me to know that the company I'm working with supports social justice and causes that I agree with. The transparency of their spending is Refreshing! I wish I could get the same level of openness from my other utility bills.

I've recommended Credo to friends, family and known Republicans. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone.

    Pros:
  • Outstanding Customer Service
    Price effective
    Good 4G coverage
    Transparent spending
Does NOT sell my data to progressive organizations!
  • Cons:
  • I didn't become a Credo member years ago.

I too liked CREDO (Working Assets when I started out with them 6 years ago) but have soured. I have ordered a new phone as the old one has water damage and there is no overnight service - just a 1-3 day service that is not even an option when you order a new phone online. When you order online all you get is notification that a new phone will arrive within 5-7 business days. The good thing is that because of this I went and bought a throwaway phone in case of emergency as I don't have a landline.

However, if they have expedited shipping why not have that as an option online? When I called it was as if they were doing something special for me by making a request that they couldn't even guarantee. Of course they sent it the new phone to the wrong address (someone changed the address from what it was on the original order, but that person was not me...) and even then they couldn't overnight me a phone. That is just bad customer service.

Watch your minutes too as the online system doesn't seem to be updated frequently enough, and then they'll turn your service off.

I am writing to them to try and get out of my contract asap.

feels like bait and switch to me - read the fine print

I switched to CREDO because it offered a lower rate than my prior carrier and I liked their progressive stand on issues.

But once the 1 year discount period ended the rate was substantially HIGHER. I called and informed the rep that I was unhappy and felt it should at least be no higher than the service I left. There was NO effort to work with me to find a better plan (take it or leave it).

I left. I found a carrier that has no contract and much better rates - that I won't name so you know that I don't have a financial agenda.

The final CREDO bill arrived with an additional $110 service charge for breaking the 2 year contract.

I called CREDO and informed the representative that I would notify the public to be wary about CREDO - to read the fine print. This is that.

    Pros:
  • The rate was good for the first year
  • Cons:
  • the rate was higher than the competing plans the next year

    Credo is the Best!

I have had only good experiences with Credo. They have great phones and excellent customer service. Any time I've called with questions regarding my phone, I've been taken care of by courteous and very knowledgeable customer service reps. I'd recommend Credo to anyone who wants great phones, service and a company that agrees with you on important political issues.

  • Excellent phones and customer service.

  • None.

    What a Relief

I came to CREDO 2 years ago in desperation.

I let Sprint abuse me for 11 years (I actually reported one customer rep for verbal abuse and received a lengthy written apology from a high-up administrator) until I couldn't take it any more, and also watched my husband do battle with Verizon--very similar nastiness and incompetence on their part. TV/Internet service with AT&T convinced me I never wanted to have anything to do with them.

    Who was left?

So my standards were admittedly low when I turned to CREDO. Who knew they would then RAISE my standards?

A big plus was knowing my money was also helping causes I believed in. If I'm gonna be abused, at least I'm not indirectly voting for things I don't believe in, I reasoned!

But to my amazement, it's been a real win beyond where my money's going. I can't believe how well I've been treated--no battles, no condescension, no constant errors to fight over, incredibly helpful customer service. The peace in my life is notable. (I had to call Sprint nearly every month for 11 years over billing errors, ALWAYS resolved in my favor but often after hours on the line.)

My gratitude for CREDO is based on numerous factors.

~First, my phone bill is lower--with more lines. The savings alone so far have made the switch a good choice.

~Second, if I need help, I always, always, ALWAYS get to talk to someone here in the USA. Do you know what a difference it makes NOT to be talking to someone in the Philippines or Bangladesh at what is, for them, the wee hours of the night? trying to explain things to someone who pronounces Ohio as "Oh-hee-yo"? Please. I had no idea how much I craved talking with a fellow American--and I feel I'm supporting jobs here stateside too rather than at an overseas call center.

~In the 2 yrs I have been with CREDO I have had only a couple of real problems, and they have been resolved quickly with continuity of care as opposed to starting all over again as always happened with Sprint. I figure I've saved the equivalent of WEEKS of my time in not having so many problems!

~I am very happy about how my money is going to good causes. People vote with their pocketbooks and we have to hold corporations responsible.

The problems I have read above in other customers' complaints are, to be frank, endemic in the mobile-phone world. Mobile service satisfaction ratings are down there with lawyers and Congressmen as "Most Disliked Service." The phones and reception are full of problems. So you figure there will always be some of that when you sign on.

So, to me, the problems we have had, all early on, with CREDO were predictable and typical; the question is, How were they handled? Politely and quickly? did they recur? Were they costly to me, the customer? Was I stuck with something I didn't want?

Well--night and day different from all my previous experience. CREDO has resolved everything politely and quickly and I have never been left holding the bag (broken phone, etc.). They have always come up with a reasonable solution within the terms of the agreement. I have five phone lines so there's plenty of room for having a real mess--which hasn't happened, thanks to CREDO. They're all happily chugging along.

After my experience with Sprint and Verizon, CREDO's response wins hands-down. This is one less headache in my life. I can't emphasize enough the total change this is. I feel as though CREDO has given me back my peace of mind and my time. I simply don't worry about my cell-phone service any more. And if I do have a problem or question, I'm no longer afraid to make a call to straighten things out.

    Win-win!

    Pros:
  • Customer service
  • low rates
  • supporting good causes
  • Cons:
  • No iPhones
  • Phones not great in general

Although I've been waiting years for the iPhone to show up at Credo, the Samsung Galaxy S III and the Note II are both excellent devices, and are the two I'm choosing from for my next upgrade!

    less than 1 star

I received 3 phones and could not get any of them activated. Customer service tried for more than three hours over two days. When I said that I wanted to return them I was told that I had to pay to ship them back. I said I shouldn't have to pay since they never worked. Steven, in "escalations" said that if I refused to pay to ship them back I would be sent to collections.

I wish I didn't have to give them one star. It was a complete waste of my time and my money.

    Pros:
  • Nothing
  • Cons:
  • Poor customer service
  • bad phones/reception
  • rip off!

Over 18 years ago, my first Cell phone was with Air Touch Cellular, a subsidiary of Pacific Bell and NOW is Verizon Wireless. The cell phone was in a brief case. Each minute of air time was $1.50 PER minute. Yes, that is correct...$1.50 per minute. The first bill I received was over $500.00. I was "Billing" shocked. I remember how POOR the service areas were and I was on the 611 customer service line often disputing the FAIRNESS of the charges.<br>

The phone was STRICTLY used for the business and allowed me to make money on the go, no longer needed an assistant or answering service to answer calls. I would answer all the calls personally and was able to become mobile and no longer chained to a land line. I remember BLAMING Air Touch Cellular/ Verizon Wireless because I could NOT call from the middle of the Borrego Dessert in SoCal. How dare Verizon Wireless. My Cell phone did not work in the desert.<br>

Well, as I matured and became a better human being, I had to look with in myself and I realized the CELL phone had LIMITATIONS (It is NOT a LAND LINE) and I was partly to blame for expecting perfection with an imperfect network. TODAY, coverage is remarkably improved but it is NOT PERFECT.<br>

A year ago I heard about CREDO MOBILE and there open stance on political issues. So we made the switch. Cool, my CREDO MOBILE cellular phone works in the Borrego dessert and I am a TRUE PATRIOT supporting a GOOD growing company. My phones, customer service and usage has been great. All our phones work in SoCal with many hills and valleys.<br>

Remember NO NETWORK is perfect and CREDO MOBILE is a smaller company and like raising a child you MUST be patient in raising that child for the BETTERMENT of THERE FUTURE. There will be growing pains but a TRUE progressive will stick it out like A SOLDIER in battle. Supporting CREDO MOBILE through the growing pains is a SELFLESS act for the BETTERMENT of the PEOPLE and for THE PEOPLE.

CREDO MOBILE has donated "Selflessly" over 60 millions dollars to HELP others. NOT like AT&T, Verizon, donating to Lobbyists for the BETTERMENT of there GREED or Corporate interests and dominant control of our phone systems. If you find ANYTHING wrong with donating 60 million dollars to help others YOU need to look WITH IN YOUR FOX Unfair/Unbalanced, Satanic Evangelical Christian, Republican, White/Caucasian, SOUL and consider the fact you are running with the DEVIL, if you believe in that! As Jesus, your Lord said: "Forgive them Father as they KNOW NOT what they DO! Yes, your Jesus is referring to YOU!

great service, accurate billing and reasonably wide network area. I tried two major/national/always-on-TV companies in both cases Customer Service was a joke (perhaps if I were fluent in Hindi things would have been better).

Their service is mediocre in low population areas but not a bit worse than ATT.

    CREDO is good company

I've been a CREDO customer for 5 years, through 4 phones. I'm very happy with the service, customer support, tech support, and I like CREDO's involvement in political issues that I'm on the side of (pro-strong-democracy). I just renewed another 2 years. I give CREDO top rating.

So glad we switched to CREDO

I switched my family to CREDO and am so glad that I did. Their customer service is fantastic! Our switch over from Verizon was seamless. We finally invested in smart phones and are delighted with them. We went with CREDO's Samsung Transform Ultra. Great phone! Sounds great and the phone is so intuitive. We haven't had a problem with dropped calls, etc, but will admit that Sprint's signal strength isn't great - but still much better than what we had with Verizon. Our home was a dead zone before we switched to CREDO. We had to buy Verizon's network extender just to be able to make and receive calls. No such problems with CREDO. FINALLY a phone company whose service is great and we can feel good about. PS - I haven't experienced anything close to what I've read in all these neg comments, but I guess everyone's experience is different.

    Pros:
  • Great customer service
  • Reliable service
  • Great phones
  • Cons:
  • Wish I had switched sooner

Long Time Customer Finally Gives Up

I have been a customer of Credo Mobile since they went into the mobile business and had long distance service with them before that. I chose them because they give part of their profit to causes I support. Lately, things have really gone down hill. First we were having trouble with cell coverage in our house and called to see if there was a hardware solution they would suggest to boost the signal. The rep told me to stand near a window. Then, my husband's phone started to die and he wanted to upgrade but wanted to wait until they had a new model. He kept calling to ask when a new model was coming and was told to keep checking the website. Finally his phone quit. He upgraded and the new model came out two days later. When we called to see if we could get the new model, they wanted to charge us a huge price for a phone that is really over a year old. This did not make since as they are giving new members the same shone for the price we paid for the old one. (Which they wanted to charge us to restock). I now have to pay to cancel a new contract and go somewhere else as they would rather overcharge once for an outdated phone than make a long term customer happy. Seems like they might have lost their vision anyway, which is why I sighed up.

Got a problem? You are on your own!

This company is great - UNLESS YOU HAVE A PROBLEM!! We have been with Credo for 10 months and have had an issue with a Samsung Transform not performing. They refuse to swap the phone without me signing a NEW 2 year contract. Why would I sign up for a new contract when the current contract I am in includes a useless phone? Avoid this company - even if you agree with their philosophy / politics.

    Pros:
  • Great service if you have basic questions
  • Cons:
  • They are unwilling to even attempt to make customer happy when problems arise

Had a VERY SIMILAR issue w/ VIRGIN MOBILE, who also uses Sprint.
If your phone had a real issue then did you go to the manufacturer under warranty? As with ANY cell phone company you are paying monthly charges for the service, and not for the phone. If you want to exchange the phone whenever you don't like how it works, you must pay for the insurance. Every smart phone I've ever had had deminished productivity, and much of it was from how I loaded it up with apps. So if you're over the warranty period and still demand you're old phone be replaced for free, I have to ask why you feel so entitled? Credo customer service has been fantastic for me. And they still don't give away anything for free. Why would they, when their competition doesn't either?

I really really wanted to like these guys. They are very friendly. BUT, my Blackberry has to be reset sometimes multiple times a week. Sprint coverage is not great and, since this is my only phone, it's pretty irritating to not be able to get a signal or to have it drop in the midst of a call. Finally, CREDO can't seem to get their billing on track. I signed up for paperless billing, but, despite diligently going online to schedule a payment as soon as I got a bill, the bills did not get paid twice. In frustration, I signed up for automatic payments and just got a notification that, despite being enrolled in automatic payment, my bill wasn't paid on time! Go figure. I still have more than a year to go with these guys, and may actually pay the penalty to get out of my contract with them.

    Really???

I'm reading all these negative reviews and me thinks I smell something fishy. I read A LOT of negativity before I switched from AT&T to Credo. I was understandably nervous. Well, I'm happy to say that after a month I have nothing but good things to say about the phone (Samsung Galaxy II Epic 4G Touch)or the customer support. I have found every person I spoke to to be polite and knowledgeable about answering my questions. Sprint's coverage is what it is....really no worse than AT&T. I'm glad I switched!!

    Pros:
  • great phone
  • excellent customer service
  • informative website
  • clear calls
  • Cons:
  • audio jack out on phone cannot be engaged when trying to use Bluetooth

Well...I am not fake and I will agree with most of the reviews on here. I left ATT (My Phone) and Verizon (Wife's phone) to sign up with CREDO because I like the ideas they support. We were super excited to join. We both got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and have had nothing but issues with the service since we joined. We can be sitting by someone using a "Sprint" phone and they are talking happily and we can't get reception....we can't get Data or Voice...

The Reps are nice for the most part, but don't do anything...we have been given new phones because we are in the warranty period but it hasn't changed anything. We were told if they can't fix it then we will be allowed to get out of our contract...which was a total lie. They went back on their word and we are stuck for another year...I can't wait for that year to be up.

If the coverage was good and there weren't dropped calls all the time we would consider changing...but nothing has worked.

CREDO is USELESS...buy a match and some wood since you will have more luck with smoke signals than connecting with your CREDO phone.

Oh and I am Canadian, it isn't a fake username, but I live in the US.
There are businesses out there that cater to providing fake reviews to the benefit of a company. Sometimes the explanations don't line up, like the one where a negative reviewer who happens to work in customer service would ever be in the position of being talked down to while arguing over $700 in overage charges. If he were accepting his charges and paying for them, the agent probably wouldn't have to suggest that they upgrade their time. I don't have overage charges, and after having to pay for overage on texts, I upgraded to unlimited texts to save in the long run. This one is either fake, or just really uninformed on how cell phone billing works.
I am considering switching to Credo and I, too, smell somthing fishy. First, the 'elderly woman's' username is ''Eatit Alex.'' Doesn't sound like the vernacular of any ''elderly woman'' I've known. Second, sites with negative reviews appear first in search-engine results...have domain names connoting right-wing social agendas...and prominently display ads for telecomm companies with known ties to ultra-conservative politics - directly under negative Credo comments. Not a crime of course but fishy, indeed.

I love the idea of using CREDO, and have been pleased overall with their services. 4 months after I had a phone replaced I was told by customer service that they had never received the phone I had sent back to them in January. Now I have the choice of paying $700 or no phone service.

Further, it took a half an hour listening to a customer service rep insisting that I had $700 in overage charges in the past 3 months and I should upgrade my plan because I wasn't responsible enough to keep within my minutes. I work in customer service and the attitude of this rep was incredibly condescending.

I didn't provide a star rating because you don't give negative stars. My experience with this company has been hideous. They are either scamming me, or they are totally incompetent. They charged me for an outrageous number of overage minutes, including a call to my wife on the same line. Then they suggested that I upgrade my plan to a more pricey one-- the old bait and switch. I would stay as far away from this company as possible.

    Wish I could be interested...

I received a note from them in the mail, saying they'd do a contract buyout for $350, and also give me 40% off my bill for the first year.

But after looking at their website I've found that their prices are far higher than what I'm currently paying at T-Mobile. $10.00 for unlimited text at T-Mobile, that same thing costs $14.99 with Credo.

It's an additional $29.99 for unlimited data and $39.99 for 450 minutes?! I currently pay $56.95 for 500 minutes, unlimited text and data AND unlimited mobile to mobile.

The cost difference is just too much! What costs $56.95 through T-Mobile costs $84.97 through Credo, and you don't even get the minutes that T-Mobile provides!

Sorry Credo, I like your political stance very much. But I cannot afford the higher prices for less service.

    Pros:
  • Politically responsible
  • I like that they don't hand our information over to the government.
  • Cons:
  • The cost is too high
  • The service isn't comparable to my current company.

    Poor communication service representatives

Credo service representatives are extremely inconsistent. I was told that if I was unhappy with Credo after switching my service to Credo, I would not be charged during my 30 day trial period. I would be 100 percent credited. I was charged 169 dollars for three days of service. I also was told that the service I was going to get was equal to my prior service, for the same cost. It was not. I was hit with 1.99 for data usage that I thought was included in the service because of poor communication on Credo end. I was unhappy with the service, so I canceled and went back to my original service. Credo also could not transfer my contacts over to the phone. I do not recommend Credo, too bad I wanted to support. Credo needs to ensure that customers get what they advertise. They should provide a written contract prior to giving service.

    Pros:
  • support progressive causes
  • Cons:
  • misleading service and charges
  • bills very confusing
  • customer service sometimes good but sometimes bad

    Bad bad bad

After receiving a very high bill,I seemed to be getting roaming charges from my own room!!And too make things worse,I was stuck with not having my contract with my previous carrier paid,I had to pay it.Needless to say this was a breach of contract. So I contacted the BBB.Purchased the Walmart Unlimited everything for 45 dollars a month and never again have to worry about extremely high bills,Just 45 dollars a month. No contract. No bs.Just good service. When a company and a person enters a contract, and the company breaches the contract,It is no longer a contract. And if the want to push the issue,I have enough money to take them to court.Luck me.Do not use credo, dropped calls, bad billing, the do not buy out your contract

The roaming charges at home are because Sprint has crappy coverage. I have this problem too. Credo is a reseller of Sprint's service, they do not own their own network. The best they can do is ask Sprint to fix the problem.
They don't offer to pay for your early termination fees. They offer to credit your credo mobile account for the ammount that you paid in early termination fees. You still have to front the money for the termination fee from your current carrier. They never said they would pay them outright.

I have not posted a rating because there are no negative stars. I think that I am being scammed by CREDO and wonder if anyone has had a similar experience. My first month went fine, except for some sketchy service. Then the second month I received a notice that I had gone 220 minutes over, to the tune of $92. I checked through my bill and could find them nowhere. In fact, my calls the second month were almost identical to my calls the first month, where I had no overage. Then I received an email telling me that since I seem to have gone over my minutes, I might be interested in upgrading my plan. Sounded very much like a bait and switch to me. When I added up my anytime minutes, I could only find 362, on a 550 minute plan. The 220 sounded too rounded off and convenient. So my advice, unless you want ripped off, avoid this company like the plague.

Good company, just make sure you understand the basic premise

We recently switched from Sprint to Credo. First, people need to understand that Credo re-sells Sprint service; this means you are on the Sprint network and will get the same coverage that you would get as a Sprint customer, for better or for worse. The primary differences that I can see between Credo and any other provider is 1) Credo is up front about their politics and 2) they REALLY work hard at customer service. Consumer Reports recently gave Sprint higher marks than any other major provider for customer service; based on my experience with both Sprint and Credo, I can confidently say both companies have their technical problems but I would rather talk with a Credo rep than a Sprint rep ANY day of the week! I had a Sprint rep ask at the end of a very frustrating discussion whether she had answered my question...when I said no, she proceeded to try to convince me that she HAD answered my question! In contrast, when I expressed some frustration with a technical problem to a Credo rep, she responded with "I have no excuse and I'm sorry that happened"...like I said, they all have technical problems but at least I'm talking with a real person and not a script-reader with Credo...glad we switched.

    Pros:
  • * Very clear about who they donate money to
    * Excellent customer service (so far)
    * Good rates (better than Sprint
  • which is why we actually switched)
  • Cons:
  • * It's still Sprint network (for good or bad)

I too forgot to mention in my review that I appreciated getting a real LIVE human, who was knowledgable and I didn't have to through Automated hell only to try to figure out which option to choose. With Verizon it was hell and I would be transferred a lot but dropped when they tried the transfer. I got a human in about 2 minutes, calling customer service for help with remember my login stuff (duh me).

    Just wish CREDO would expand

I just wish CREDO would expand to provide internet service to homes, so I could totally jettison at&t. I have been with CREDO for over 13 years and have had time to experience the best and the worst of the phone company. After all this time, they have proven to be the best phone company I have had (yes, I had tried others). Nine times out of ten I have gotten excellent representatives who knew what they were talking about and were more than helpful to resolve a problem, which is better than any other company I can think of. All phones have faulty service in some area or other, but as an example of good service, my phone was the only one that received service on my street during last year's hurricane that knocked out power for weeks. All my neighbors who had at&t and t-mobile were coming over to borrow my cellphone. Whenever I received a phone from CREDO that had a problem, after troubleshooting they always switched it out with no problem. Yes, I could look for rock bottom prices, but I agree with the politics of CREDO and bringing important topics to the attention of their customers; it helps me participate more in issues I care about. So I don't mind paying a moderate price for excellent service, intelligent communication, and a company that cares. Time tells, and I feel I've spent enough to be able to tell the difference.

The star is for the politics only. Every other aspect of my attempt to use Credo Mobile was a complete and horrific disaster. They promise service that they can't deliver. The billing department has no interaction with the service department. They have virtually no service in my state, but claimed that they could handle the job. I lost three days work and quite a bit of money hassling with them, and am currently on the line explaining to them why I'm having trouble believing them they I'm not being billed for service I've not received when I am holding the bill in my hand.

I like my liberal politics. But I require technical competence in order to live my daily work life, and Credo did not deliver.

    Unethical hypocrites

On the crest of the liberal wave sweeping the country, we dropped AT&T and switched to Credo that told us they would pick up the early termination fee up to $400.00. After many letters and copies of the AT&T bill with a $250 termination fee, Credo finally told us that they did not have enough evidence to cover our AT&T early termination fee. Credo gave us a terrible service. For example, we could get connection in our bedroom but not in our living room, 10 feet away; and it kept dropping calls. When I called them about this problem their answer was that they did not provide a service but the connection is provided by somebody else. We received enormous bills "because of overuse of the service." Finally I said enough is enough: bad service, deceptive practices and large bills were enough to convince us to stop Credo services. This past April 2013 we walked into an AT&T outlet and signed for their service once more. We called Credo and told them that we would not continue with them and we were switching our phones. They said that everything was OK and, SPECIFICALLY, Credo said there was NO early termination fee (there were 6 days left in our contract.) Both our telephones with unlimited calling plus and iPad connection cost us in AT&T LESS than what Credo charged us for our two puny phones with poor connections and large bills. Today, September 14, we received a bill from Credo for $180.00, threatening us to send the bill to a collection agency. We called Credo and they told us that it is an "early termination fee." When we told the supervisor that when we called Credo the agent said that for 6 days there would not be an "early termination fee" the Credo supervisor scoffed at us: "Six days is an early termination, not different from six months, so you guys better pay now or face a collection agency." Well, that's what we are going to do right now, pay them... once more. Overall, bad service, deceptive practices and total lack of ethics. I still believe in liberal causes, but these Credo guys are a bunch of unethical people.

    Pros:
  • Pays lip service to liberal causes
  • Cons:
  • Inefficient service
  • unethical behavior.

    Best in the industry!

I was surprised to see a few less than perfect reviews of this company, since I've been with Credo for years and absolutely love this company. In fact, I just added another line--my first with a data plan-- and was pleased to find that they have the most economical data plan in the industry, considering that when they say "unlimited," they really mean it. I've never had to wade through an automated menu, always get to talk to a knowledgeable person, and the reps never make customers feel like a number. Also love what this company stands for. Never a problem, and I don't expect to have one in the future. Great track record!

    Bought:
Samsung Galaxy II with data plan.
    Order Date:
    2013-05-12
    Pros:
  • Company supports good causes. Live support with smart
  • friendly reps.
  • Cons:
  • Bill credits take 4 weeks to appear. This was explained to me and I don't really consider it a con
  • but just wanted to mention for other readers.

Customer service is the best/Sprint Network it uses is limited

I have been with Credo Mobile for two stints over the past ~decade. I left them after four years ONLY to have a smartphone, since they offered none at the time. They drew me back from Verizon with a decent offering of phones, and only in the last year finally started carrying top-of-the-line Samsungs. Customer service has always been very friendly, informative, and satisfying. Like most mobile consumers, I too feel the sense of entitlement when I reach that six month point in my contract only to see newer, better, faster phones hit the lineup with an upgrade price of "not a chance I'm paying that-dollars" while new customers can sign up at a fraction of the price. However, I understand why every cell phone company does this and so I put in my time. No longer under warranty, my cell phone is starting to have hardware issues beyond my control, but my discounted upgrade offer is pretty good now (I would pay $50 less to upgrade to the top 3 phones than new customers would!) that I'm 17 months into my 2-year contract. I'm now just having an internal argument with myself over whether or not I might save another $50 by waiting another month. Although my house and work gets great reception from the Sprint network providing my signal, it is terrible at my girlfriend's house and my relative's home, both of which are away from large metropolitan areas. I will stick with Credo specifically because they are NOT AT&T and Verizon!

    Pros:
  • Customer service
  • Billing
  • Cons:
  • Sprint network Provider is limited versus competition

    Credo is the Coolest

I have been with Credo/Working Assets for over 15 years. They have some the best, most knowledgeable customer service people on the planet and they are on THIS continent, either Canada or us. Always helpful, always friendly, plus the phone service is great plus they have given over 72 Mil. to progressive Orgs over the years I have been with them. What's not to like.

    Pros:
  • Great customer service
  • excellent phone selection
  • support progressive orgs
  • Cons:
  • can't think of any

    High rates; poor service coverage

While CREDO does promote progressive causes, their monthly service rates are just way too high. My bill jumped $22 per month to $90 after one year for basic (no data or messaging) phone service on 2 basic phones. Verizon charges $60 for the same thing and I got better coverage. I cannot use my CREDO phones at home because there is no service in my area--not even roaming. With Verizon, I got 4 bars signal strength.

Yes, I know Verizon is an evil company, but at least their phones worked at my home AND they charged me $30 less per month for the same type of plan. I will switch back to Verizon after my CREDO contract expires and donate the $30 difference to the progressive causes I choose instead.

    Pros:
  • Supports progressive causes
  • Cons:
  • Rates much higher than Verizon
  • poor service coverage

Can't wait to get out of credo cell phone

I switched our cell phones to Credo in March 2011.2 yr contract. Mistake. I have a smart phone. Just getting to Tier 2 support on the best of days takes almost 20 minutes of phone tree and being on hold. My phone has slowed to such a crawl that I can't make a call or yesterday even answer a call. They say my LG has an old operating system and I need to buy a new phone. What??? I just bought it - but they say it was old to begin with. So that's why it was free!!! Ha ha on me. I should have bought insurance!!! Ha ha on me. I am so sick of this phone I often want to throw it at a wall. I'm stuck in this plan because I have 4 of us on it and one is my 86yr old mother in law out of state, so switchng her phone is a major life event to say the least. Especially since she can't just go to the store in the mall and have them deal with it. Having to do this over the phone, sending phones back and forth is ridiculous. I see all the positive reviews - I guess you never had a technical problem to deal with - only a billing problem.

    Pros:
  • social causes
  • Cons:
  • bad phone
  • slow technical support

sick of snet-sbc-cingular-att, how much have they spent just changing every implementation of nomenclature 5 or 6 times, on websites, gov, records, trucks, uniforms, stationary etc. I like credo very much, always friendly ,support mostly in nova scotia, nice people, gave me contract buyout to leave att[actually cingular left me when they changed] can get phones when needed not just 2yrs, they want you to be happy, they let me change phone just cause I did not like it. I like that they do not invest in anticonsumer corporate takeover of america. with supreme court ruling companies can bribe polititians and set up phony grass roots like armeys {freedom works] what it means is you are free to work for ever for pennies at dangerous jobs, paying more and more to ins and financials, and health , freedom for them to do whatever they want and steal your ss and pay no taxes themselves. but I digress get credo. not as good selection as att, no Iphone so go blackberry or htc. dan

    Credo sucks!!

I joined Credo leaving Sprint in March 2012. I joined them because of the 40% off for the 1st year service and the contract buyout. My first month bill was over $700 due to going over my minutes which has never happened to me with Sprint. My husband he contant connection issues with his phone they even sent him another one and the problems still exsist. They might not be using all Spring towers because my service got a lot worse. Most of the time I have to use my router signal in the house. After the 40% off deal was over my bill went up like $60. I so want to get out of this contract but I refuse to give them a dime more money than my bill. I have 8 more grueling month off this craziness and I'm immediately switching!!! Yes the cust. service is friendly but what good is that when they can always resolve the issue at hand.

    Bought:
    Samsung SII Epic 4G
    Order Date:
    2012-03-12
    Date Received:
    2012-03-14

    Pros:
  • I got a nice phone
  • Cons:
  • -Horrible signal
    -Deceiving company

    Great Service

Are you kidding? honest, respectful, helpful with figuring out the best plan, and then they do good work with the profits. The only glitch in service was with getting the buy out... that took a while, then they came through just like they said on the phone.

    Pros:
  • Great customer service
  • great products
  • great causes
  • Cons:
  • non international plan

I really like this company. The rates and service are pretty much comparable to other companies; however the fact that they are honest very upfront about supporting progressive causes is extremely refreshing. You even get to vote on which causes you find most important.

Most large companies (like AT&T) provide vast funding to conservative causes yet say nothing about it. I find no problem with supporting a conservative cause that someone believes in, but by purposely not informing the public (or making information difficult to find) about what causes they are supporting, large companies (like AT&A) avoid accountability to their customers and also perpetuate back-door lobbying of interest groups which are simply not acting in the public good.

Credo Mobile has shown an enormous amount of accountability by being so upfront about what their profits are going toward. Thatís the kind of company that I want to do business with.
