Metro Delivery Scam

Posted on Monday, June 20, 2011 @ 01:35:18 PM CDT by David Yee [] [read 49007 times]

Deals and Coupon News
I recently received a door tag outside my home. At the bottom it said:

Metro Delivery
Quick, Secure, Reliable

The top of the door tag looked like this:

Date: 6/17
To: _____
Sorry We Missed You.

Please call to reschedule.

San Antonio Metro:
210.515.5276

Austin Metro:
512.942.6211

Confirmation # _____

It was odd because I was home the entire day, but no one had rang the door bell. I buy a lot online so I thought it's one of the packages somehow. So I called the # to try to get tracking information from this Metro Delivery company. No one answered so I left a message. Someone from (480)388-3659 called back after the weekend and said that my home owner's association had a large package to deliver to me with over a thousand dollar worth of coupons (right there I said to myself, sh*t, I've been had!). They've ran out of the coupons and she asked do I want to receive via email (I thought YEAH- right) or regular mail. And asked if I needed any security services or water services.

After the phone call I felt like I did when I was a teenager responding to those "You have won a million dollars!" offers in the mail.

It's SAD that there is a company out there that resorts to lying/tricking consumers like this in order to try to get your information to sell to others- undoubtedly adding more SPAM to your life. It's a scam and I hope you don't fall for it like I did.

Beware!

I have read that some people have been robbed shortly after telling these people that they do not have a security system!

Thanks for posting this...

They've changed their telephone numbers and "calling cards". Now the cards show a logo of Geo Trek and has 3 delivery options: 1st attempt, 2nd attempt (checked off) and 3rd & final attempt to delivery. Again, looks semi legit but was told it was a marketing strategy for local and small businesses in San Antonio/Austin area, to offer services to me as home owner. The over the top friendliness of "LUKE" was a red flag...but when I asked what the marketing package contained he said 'adverts & coupons - such as free quotes on pest control, water softener, cable tv and home security system' RED FLAG on home security system. I gave my junk email account address and got a email from Metro Delivery - which is how I found out that this is probably more of a scam than an attempt to help small business owners generate income. Beware!

Pros:
  • none
  • Cons:
  • - semi official looking delivery card notification gimmick
  • - call waiting system that plays music to make you think you've contacted a business office

    Scammers selling strategies

They just want you to call and harass you trying to sell security systems. I got one from COMPASS DELIVERY. DO NOT call from your private phones or they will be calling you all the time. I called from Gmail and they kept me waiting forever.

    Suspicious

Guy came to my door and my video doorbell caught the motion and started recording. He never rang the bell but left gift cards and the sorry we missed you sticker with a confirmation number, then he took a picture with his cell phone of my door. I'm a little worried that someone might break in based on the previous comments. I do have a great security system so hopefully that will help. The guy was in a beat up car and never rang the bell.

Thank you very much for all of yours posting. It is saving me stay away from Metro Delivery note and a box of discount gift cards in front of my door. This morning I was wonder for delivery note, but was thinking maybe a surprise gift from my boyfriend because I have not ordered anything from Metro. I made the phone call and put their confirmation # and my cell phone as directed on their note and experience is the same thing to what you wrote about them before I read your post. You guys saved me before I will step deeper to their scam. I'm very appreciated you guys a lot, and past their note to my family to be aware of them.

I live in northern utah and just got the sorry we missed you card and a pack of laggit discount cards in a professional looking box called NuCards, you have to call and activate with their company. I then read the back of the door tag and wonder how many people got screwed by these guys and how many small companies reps have been tarnished.

    Pros:
  • I looked before calling
  • Cons:
  • I didn't ask for this shit
  • or some scumbag to come on my property

    Glad I researched

Pretty standard package received exactly three weeks after closing on my house - NuCards box of $4500 worth of "gift cards requiring activation" from local businesses, 80% of which I don't even want, including $100 of "Feature your business in the box!" (huh??) plus the "missed you" slip on the door.

Like so many other folks, I'm glad I researched before calling the number. I didn't even know "Metro Delivery" was a thing, let alone a supposed shipping company. But I assumed they were, and was prepared to call and ask about this "missed delivery," like I would with Fedex or UPS.

The slip and the stack of plastic goes in my "new homeowner scams" pile along with that "pay us $$ to get a copy of your title" letter that the title insurance lady warned me about at closing.

It's pretty apparent that these people have automated systems scanning public records (likely Zillow, county assessors, etc.) for ownership transfers on properties. I think simply not responding is my best course of action for now.

    Scam

This is a scam. I'm going to have this company investigated because my information is not listed in public records it is blocked and I need to know how this company received my information to deliver these fake cards to me. If I can I would rate this company a zero.

    METRO DELIVERY SCAM

I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND MY SURVAILLANCE CAMERA CAUGHT THIS CRIMINAL THAT CASED MY HOUSE SHORTLY BEFORE AND THEN PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOME. A BLACK DUDE WALKED QUIETLY TO THE FRONT OF MY HOME AND STOOD THERE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE LISTENING, THEN WALKED BACK INSIDE HIS CAR THEN STOOD THERE FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THEN DROVE OFF, NOT KNOCKING OR ANYTHING. I WAS THE ONLY HOUSE HE CAME TO. MY NEIGHBOR WAS OUTSIDE CUTTING HIS GRASS AND HE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK THAT WAY. PLUS THERE ARE OTHER HOMES. HE CAME JUST FOR MY HOME. MY HOME IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST HOMES IN THE AREA. I CALLED THE NUMBER AND TOLD ME THAT THEY SENT DISCOUNT CARDS TO NEW HOME OWNERS. THE THING IS THAT I AM NOT A NEW HOMEOWNER AND HAVE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR MANY YEARS. AFTER HE LEFT I NOTICED THE STUPID NOTE THAT HAD MY FIRST AND LAST NAME AND FULL ADDRESS, SIMILAR TO THE ONE EVERYONE WAS GETTING AND THERE WAS NO KNOCKING. THIS IS VERY CREEPY SOMEONE STANDING LISTENING TO WHAT IS GOING ON. SUPRISINGLY MY DOGS DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL HE WAS HEADING OUT. THIS GUY WAS VERY VERY QUITE. I CALLED FROM SKYPE ACCOUNT IN WHICH THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO TRACE ME BACK AT ALL TO HARRASS ME AND I JUST WAITED TO SPEAK TO A REP WITHOUT PUTTING MY CODE AND ASKED THEM WHAT THIS WAS ABOUT AND THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS A NEW HOMEOWNER AND THAT THEY HAD A PACKAGE WITH CUPONS AND FREE GIFTS FOR ME SENT BY THE CITY. I TOLD HER THAT NOTHING IS FREE! I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD A NO TRASPASSING SIGN IN FRONT OF MY DOOR THAT NEXT TIME I WAS GOING TO CALL THE COPS AND MAKE AN ARREST. SHE TOLD ME THAT IN ORDER TO MAKE THAT COMPLAINT THAT SHE NEEDED THE CODE AND I RESPONDED THAT THAT WAS NOT ABOUT ME BUT ABOUT NOT BREAKING THE LAW IN GENERAL WHEN THEY SEE A NO TRASSPASSING SIGN. FINALLY SHE RELUCTINGLY ACCEPTED TO "MAKE A NOT OF IT". I RECORDED CONVERSATION. THIS IS VERY DARK PEOPLE. THIS IS MORE THAN A SCAM. WHY WAS THE GUY SO SNEAKY (STEALTHY) AND LISTENING TO WHAT WAS GOING ON INSIDE MY HOME? ANY SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN REPORTING TO BBB?

    Cons:
  • SCAM
  • CASED MY HOUSE
  • AND ONLY TARGETED MY HOME.

    SCAM

I'm home and a little blue Chevy suv pulls up, two guys in front eat and a lady comes out of the back seat. She runs up to my door, puts this 'NuCard' box on my doorstep and puts a 'Sorry we missed you' tag on door. These are BS $100.00 off coupons that you have to redeem. S.Florida

    In Florida too.

Not surprisingly for states with weak or nearly non existent consumer protection laws, they are in Florida as well. I looked for this site specifically because the language contained on the reverse side of the note expressly allows the company and its "clients" to violate do not call laws. Well done! Keep it up!!

My video doorbell alerted me with motion since some lady came up to my door and never rang the bell. She taped one of the "sorry we missed you" cards on my door then left a box of the NuCards on my door step. Immediately right after she backed up a couple steps and started taking a whole bunch of pictures of my doorstep.

    Same Here

I just called the number. One of the first automated questions I got was if the number I was calling from was my home or cell. Concerned they'd start texting me, I indicated it was my home number. It became quickly clear that there was no attempted delivery but instead a deliberate attempt to mislead me into calling them. And now they have my cell phone number and can sell that. I wish I'd have thrown this paper away and never called.

They left a tag and the cards about a month ago. One of the cards expired the same date they left it. Yesterday there was a sticker marked "second attempt" and the choice of a Kansas City, Springfield, or St Louis number with the city I'm in highlighted.

    Phew

We had just moved into a new house and had roughly 30 packages delivered that same week, however, come Saturday (when we got this note on my garage) we weren't not expecting any more packages so I checked online 'cause I didn't recognize the "metro delivery" company. I am glad I did! Clearly this is a scam. Even just reading the back of the note had me suspicious. It's bad enough that we were home all day and they never truly "attempted" anything other than leaving a note. LITTLE did they know that they left this note on a cyber security professional- messed with the wrong new homeowner :)

    Total Scam

Same story, although the company here in Ohio is identifying as Nucards. Received the note and small gift box of gift cards even though no one ever rang the door bell. I called, like an idiot, just because I was so confused. I allowed the woman to "activate" the cards just so I could get off the phone with her. Never thought it would turn into something borderline scary like this. Since then, I have received 5 calls within a month, all for services I never requested. Each time I tell them to take me off their list and never call me again, and that their scam of a company has been a huge disappointment. They have not done anything illegal as of yet (when you purchase a home it is public record so I assume that's how they are getting the addresses), but I am reporting them to the better business bureau for sales harassment. The reports of the security system stuff and possibility of breakins is terrifying.

    Pros:
  • Don't call
  • Cons:
  • Total Scam
  • nothing good will come of it

    Love the internet

So we are new home owners but its been over a month, when these arrived. Part of the front of the house was messed with (reminded me of someone looking for a hidden spare key) along with a similar note and local business coupons box.

Smelling fishy i looked up nuCards online and the smell got worse. MetroDelivery was next, since i've worked for a few copanies like fed-ex and have never heard of metro before. Sure enough a news video was found from fox and this was the second link i found.

Warned off my wife calling, but she's home alone today and I'm very worried they will "attempt" again but bolder.

    This was 9/22 in Cali

If they come again today I want cops to know and a camera up to get a face/ description. Or better yet if they come saturday i'll give them the sound of a 12-gauge sliding to 'listen' to. Bas**rds!

    Thanks everyone gl out there

    Metro Delivery

I was actually at my house cleaning windows on front of house when car pulled up, some guy was in Toyota Prius, threw a cigarette butt on street and walked up to my house, said "oh, I'm going to leave this note on the door for the homeowner',.. he didn't realize or maybe he did, that I WAS THE OWNER, ... anyways, its obvious a total scam, in the trash his note went, next time I see him, will be a different story...

    Actually gave them a chance

Very odd company. After I bought my house I received the box of cards and the missed package note 2 days later. I was expecting a lost package from a small company so didn't really phase me to call

Metro delivery.. They identified themselves as Nucards and I commented that they could have just told me to call them to activate the cards. I would have as I am looking to do a lot of work to the house and get multiple bids. At any rate I said fine, start sending contractors my way. First day was great. I got call from a great guy Jose. He identified himself as with being with Nucards and asked me what I needed. He arranged a couple of estimates from good companies I have heard of. Those companies in turn called to confirm the appointments. I went over other bids I would need down the road and told Jose to call me 1 week. The following day is when things went sideways. I started getting calls from the same area code that Jose called from only these people were identifying themselves as being with the actual contractors and they were for thing am other than what I discussed with Jose. I know damn well they were kids from NuCard and got one to admit it. I asked why not just say your with NuCards and didn't get a clear response. Day 3 gets worse actual local contractors start calling, again for jobs I'm not ready for - your not going to put flooring in ahead of a full remodel. I asked where they got the lead. Someone had gone into Home Advisor and put my info down and said I needed a quote. An email came from some other home advisor type site called Poch and stated a contractor would be calling. The

Contractor and being charge by these companies for these leads so I'm sure NuCards sold my info. You know they would do much better job if

They just let the first kid who got the lead keep the client. He was great but now I have to call them and tell them to stop contacting me. My advice would be to just pay for a referral service like Angie's list.

    Pros:
  • None
  • Cons:
  • They need to assess their business model. I was happy to work with them for about 24 hours

    Metro Delivery Scam

I heard the neighbors dogs barking so I checked out front of my home. There was no one in site but a small plastic container full of discount Cards were on the porch. As I turned to re enter my home I noticed a note from ' METRODELIVERY' stating, " SORRY we missed you !' I also order online and it is Christmas Time. I thought this was one of my orders. When I dialed the Number I got no answer, Only instructions to enter the Confirmation Code and my name...........I did not do it !( The cards are all plastic 'CREDIT CARD STYLE CARDS' and offer various discounts for each service that they represent ) They all says on the back, " Call (===) ===-==== to activate card"! I see the scam already.....They want too much info from you without talking directly to you !

Yes I received a door tag too. So I called and was told about the coupons card etc. Asked for more info but I only gave what was in the door hanger since I was suspicious! Then he said we could make another attempt to deliver or send them by email. I said no, not interested. Then the guy explained but it's free and paid for and there's coupons etc to save money! As I proceeded again to tell him I was not interested, he hung the phone! Definitely a scam. I guess it's still going on!

Looked it up and found here. Thanks, everyone for bringing this issue up.

A question however: Does anyone know how to get them to stop, because yesterday they came by again and "Delivery ninja'd" another note.

I, like all of you, just want them to go forth and multiply. Is it worth reporting them to the PD, BBB or what?

If Metro Delivery is a real company, why all the sneeky moves? Why not deliver the packages like real delivery guys? Why not just call and ask homeowners if they need your services like normal marketing companies do?
